Shogun 500 Mixte
 

This is a very good condition Shogun 500 mixte, i'm afraid I don't know the year, 1980s
Chromoly double butter frame, no damage. frame is 19"

Milleage is <1 mile, all original components. Heck the cotton bar tape is unblemished
Shimano downtube friction shifters, 6 in the back and a nice triple up front.

tires and brake pads will probably need to be replaced and everything greased and lubed to make her roadworthy,
the usual deal for an 1980s lady kept in the garage for so long ;-)

having trouble finding info on these shoguns online, so if anyone has any info i'd be appreciative

Hi bobkatz,

It may be possible to date the bike from the serial number, which should be under the BB shell. Also Shogun changed there headbadge logo frequently, so a picture of the headbadge could help date the bike.

You might also list the code on the downtube shifters.

I think it is a 1984. That is the mixte version of the Shogun 500 CroMo I picked up--same paint scheme and components as you can see in the Shogun Serial Database Thread.

Your find really does look to be in immaculate condition.

Would you mind posting a picture of the freewheel on your bike or telling me which one it is? Mine is 5-speed for some odd reason. I'd love to know the make/model of the stock saddle too.

$200-$250, depending on local market conditions.

Most gas pipe mixte frames will bring $200. I would think in the right market to the right buyer $300+. I don't know how much of this frame is double butted chromoly but I am curious what others with more knowledge will say.

I know mixtes are making a comeback, but I've never been able to get more than ~$150 no matter how nice or dolled up with pretty grips, tires and saddle. I remember a time when you couldn't give a mixte away. Interestingly, many sales were to men, esp those who had difficulty raising a leg over a standard frame. If you folks can get $200-300, by all means, go for it.

I sold a pink Miyata mixte F/F on ebay for $202.50...............it was in very good condition. I've had trouble selling most others.

I gave also found that frame tubing and even components don't seem to effect mixte prices much. Buyers seem more interested in the aesthetics look of these. In realy nice condition with better frame and alloy components with front triple I would say $250-275 depending on market. Mixtes in nice condition seem to start around $175 and top out at about $300.

From the serial number the frame was manufactured in 1983, but the decals look like the 1984 model year.

The Champion #2 Butted Tubes is not bad.

Where I am from there seems to be a bigger demand for older step-through bicycles of any quality, than for mixte bicycles. I think it must be the look of the bike more than the quality.
