Value on 1980s Kuwahara Touring Bike (Caravan?)

Hello all. I just started to get into classic and vintage bikes and in my search for an 80s japanese touring bike came across a Kuwahara. I believe it is a Caravan, as my searches have come up with no other touring model that Kuwahara made. The guy is asking $450 for it. Which seems steep to me, but I hear high praises about Kuwaharas and the price is OBO so I'd figured I'd bring this to you all and see what ya think. It's got a Cyclone group on it as well and I hear good things about that too, but I don't know what generation it is. I'm also curious about the quality of the steel (there is a real nice picture of the sticker on the ad). Here is the craigslist ad link with some good pictures:

Vintage 1980's Touring Bike 54cm Handmade

Thanks for any help/advice you're able to offer!
Cheers

This is a high end bike (or was back in the day). It is in great shape cosmetically and has really nice parts (cyclone derailleurs, Sugino AT crank, suntour bar ends) plus bags and a rack. If this were a more desirable brand (say a Miyata 1000 or Trek 720 touring bike), it would go for more than $450. It is hard to value this bike because Kuwaharas don't come up as often. Still it may well be worth the price that is being asked given that touring bikes tend to command a premium and this is a nice looking one. Lowball him if you like but you might lose out on the bike. This bike is at the upper end of what it is worth but the price is not unreasonable.

If it fits I would have no problem offering 300 and settling up to 400 if you like the ride. It looks to be in great shape, plus the rack, bags, fenders and original bars/downshifters. Somebody will appreciate that bike for sure and it is ready for commuting or leaving it all behind.

It's a gorgeous bike. I haven't priced new bikes in years, but I can't believe you will find a new tourer of that quality for less than a grand. Its ready to go and priced fairly. If it fits, offer 350 and pay up to 400........ I'd do it soon and in person.

If you end up buying it, give us a report with pics. We like seeing pics of old bikes.

Will do. I'm gonna give him a ring tomorrow and try and look at it asap. I usually ride a 53 (stubby legs) so we'll see how it fits....

Luck on the fit. Don't low ball, that is a solid price for a bike in the size sweet spot with all the extras.
