Vintage Trek

Hey everyone,

I'm not super familiar with older trek bikes, so looking for direction in terms of being able to date and determine the components that can help me uncover what model and the potential value. I'm thinking early 80s maybe 1982?
The asking price is high (275$), but I'm in pretty close the worst (most expensive) market.

Any help is appreciated. Looks like it fits the gf, so hoping to not overspend.

Thanks again.

Looks like an '83 Trek 600. Suntour Blue Line derailleurs, double butted Reynolds 531 main tubes. A very nice bike, for sure, but it looks like it definitely needs some work.

Probably an '82, based on the markings. The question is condition. I can't tell much in the photo, but it looks a little bit worn out. I don't think $275 is obscene in a hot market if the bike is in good shape, but if it's not, I dunno. if you could get it for under $200 it might be worth it. You'll put some money into fixing it up, though. Is your girlfriend tallish? That looks like a 23" frame or so.

'83 had a silver head tube. I think this is an '82.

She is!
She towers over me.
The frame is 56 cm, so should be perfect to her.
He's open to offers, so I'll finally have the chance to venture into vintage bike haggling.

Thanks everyone

I'm thinking 1982 , 600 level , maybe 613 . The serial # is on the bottom side of the bottom bracket . rear wheel (rim) looks to be a replacement . Around here , I could get that kind of money , if it was completely overhauled , new tires , etc .

If it's Reynolds 531 main tubes that's not a bad price IMO depending on condition. I'd still try to talk him down but I don't think you're getting ripped off at $275 for that bike.

Well even for a nice vintage Trek $275 seems high considering condition. Needs complete rebuild all bearings, cables and drivetrain seat, brake hoods very likely a lever set is cheaper, bartapes and then likely a wheelsset and tires the mismatched wheeles and tires with the rear not matching the bike don't inspire confidence. I see $200+ in costs to properly rebuild the bike which is realy on worth $325-400 in top conditon. This one looks like a total money pit to me so I wouldn't go much over $150-175 which is the value of the frame and some of the basic components.
