Hi,
I'm new to this forum. It was suggested to me as a good resource.
I have a 1974 Raleigh International that belonged to my late wife. It is too small for me to ride , so I am looking to find it a new owner/rider.
I am confused by the pricing I have seen for this model bike. Seems to be a huge range of values. Could someone please give me an accurate idea of what this bike is worth? Thanks

The photo is of the actual bike. The sales brochure/advertisement page is from Raleigh.

The tubing should be Reynolds "531"? That is a desirable bike with Campagnolo componentry. I see very nice condition Professionals selling for $700-1000 on eBay. Small frame size is also a plus. I would think if the paint and chrome are in good shape w/ no dents/damage, and you cleaned the bike up very well, took very good photos, listed on eBay with a low-ish starting bid and a reserve to protect yourself, and offered to ship internationally including to Japan, you'd get something in that range.

It's a bit hard to evaluate condition from your picture. Several (many) pictures showing details (e.g. condition of tubing joints, chrome and components) will be useful here.

Having said that, agree with @jyl. I'd think if the bike is as clean as it appears, I'd start with a Buy It Now listing of $1000, plus shipping. Give it a month, then drop the price.

I'm not sure what the story is with that $2.5k auction, seems suspicious to me.

Selling off a departed's stuff is never fun.
The images of the bike show it was modified to taste, Suntour Bar end controls, different saddle, padded grips, and Weinmann concave rims.
To some all good, to many and to obtain the highest value now, not good even if reasonable.
Assuming no significant flaws to the paint or chrome, in that $700-900 range. The smaller size holds it back too.

The referenced ebay auction is probably an outlier. That was probably the minimum bid and someone really really wanted it as there was only one bid.
I would monitor and observe if that bike does not return again, when stuff like that shows up, a number of times the buyer backs out after they wake up.

Hey Brian, I've seen your bike on SLC Craigslist or KSL for quite awhile now. I think you have had it priced way too high (you have been asking $1500 right?). I think $1000 is about as much as you can reasonably expect for an International in great shape (on Ebay) and even that is a bit of a stretch. That Ebay sale was a big outlier. Selling locally you will probably get much less than on Ebay. The SLC market is not great for high end vintage stuff.

Your marketing and bike knowledge plays a role on selling price...if you haven't sold bikes you should expect less money. $2500 for a Raleigh International, even in good condition, seems a bit silly to me. There is a market and fan base for these, but they are fairly common bikes. Typical selling price for a bike person with a decent ad is probably around $700 - $900 on eBay. Subtract fees. Yours is clean and a good size, so probably higher range.

If it were me, I'd advise selling locally for $500ish, or even trying on our sales forum, and saving yourself the hassle of shipping.

I did a bit of ebay searching of completed items, and indeed the prices are quite variable. Many more though in the range mentioned by others and not even at the amounts I indicated. A few full bikes went for in the $400 range plus shipping.
I also referenced the SLC craigslist insertion, the price has been possibly refined to $1050. With the modifications of the bike probably still too stiff a price.
In the description are a few errors that reduce the confidence that the seller knows about vintage bikes. For some this will imply a discount as the bike has a bigger chance of requiring a full service to provide best operation, repacking things take time.
In their day the Weinmann concave rims had a durable reputation, but they are 27" and narrow, the selection of tires that fit these rims well is small. The bike was originally fitted with 700c (tubular) wheels, the current selection of 700c clincher tires is quite large, so a potential buyer will either Want those rims or consider them a component that needs replacement, even though there will be some cost recovery if they were to sell them.
