85 Pro Miyata

Hmmmmm. I have people in Tucson that could facilitate this for me, and we're moving back down there in about six weeks so no need for delivery. 2nd in the Miyata line for '85; looks like a great bike. So what's an appropriate dollar value?

Am I read the ad right? An additional wheelset is included? If that's the case, great deal! If not, I'd hesitate. But I'm not much for race bikes. Do you know what the all the components are? Decent price for a well made, high end bike.

Components are pictured in the ad. Suntour Sprint stuff.
And no, you're not reading it right. An additional chainwheel/crankset is included. ;)

I'd rather have a Centurion Ironman Master for that much dough. Suntour sprint is meh. At $300 maybe. I bought one of these Miyata's with Dura Ace, tubulars, at the same price, with an extra wheel, two years ago.

Guess I am going out on a limb...I think this would be a pretty good deal...the $375 is not outrageous for this bike...and it looks to be in decent shape. To me, this is the type of bike that you do not really worry about putting back to original specs...it is more one that you put it the way you want it and ride it. It should have better components, but...really, who cares.

Of course...that being said, I would offer $300 and see where it goes!

Thanks, gentlemen. Didn't realize the Sprint stuff was so-so and not original. Think I'll leave this one to the next guy.

Sprint is pretty good stuff. They finally figured out how to make the brakes work.

As a Suntour fan I rate that era Sprint pretty high. My favs: Superbe Pro first, then Cyclone generation 1, then Sprint.

Well dammit. Just when I'd convinced myself to stop eyeballing it, along come the Sprint fans.
I think I'll let it hang around a bit longer and see if I can score it cheap. They're well into 105-degrees-plus down there. Only crazy people are thinking about bikes right now... no A/C on the dang things.

Should have come with Superbe Pro, which would have made the decision VERY easy. On the other hand, its been up for a while, maybe seller will entertain an offer. If so, deal looks better and better. If you try to return it to original, be prepared to spend some $$ as Superbe Pro bits can be on the pricey side.

+1 I would expect this bike to have a Superbe Pro and or Dura Ace components. With the current components I would consider it a good deal at $300. But considering how nice it is overall in the pics $375 isn't bad if you like everything paint color scheme very large bars and stem with somewhat aggressive setup.

Fahrenheit531 06-06-14 07:35 PM

I've always been a fan of the red/gold... it carries a vaguely menacing aspect for me, courtesy of a childhood filled with Soviet threats and such. ;)
As for the stem and bars, I can try it out and if it doesn't work for me I have a few options lying around that I could swap in. So no additional cost there.

At the very least, though, it sounds like I was correct in thinking it's a quality machine and worth riding.

Sprint is original to that bike that year. I have one with some of the original group.

daf1009 06-07-14 02:47 PM

Nothing wrong with Sprint...and, I think, humbly, that this is a good deal at 375...if you get it for less, great! I think you could get it, see if you like riding it...if so, you got a good deal...if not, I do not think you would lose money...and...if you got it for 300, GREAT deal...
