1980 - PKN-10 Does re-painting a bike
I'm a bit of an amature restorer and I was wondering if painting this bike would increase or decrease it's value. The paint that's on it has quite a few beauty marks. If I were going to repaint it I would want to put the stickers (just like stock) back on but don't know if I could find them.
Thanks

edit: bit of searching answered my question. General consensus is re-painting decals lower overall worth of bike by 50%.

Sometimes repainting can be a wash value wise, but you will never get what you spend to paint and rebadge it. And a mediocre repaint (I've seen plenty of them) drops value a TON.
As a budding restorer, buyers/collectors want items with original finish. Worn, original > nice, sparkly new finish. Now at some point, repaint is necessary to protect the bike.
And line up decals first before doing anything. I love it when I see a post, "I just repainted my XYZ, where do I find decals?"

As far as a mediocre paint... I'm sure I could make the bike look *perfect* with good-solid paint. But I agree, it looks as though the effort would only be worth it if it was 1. your bike or 2. someone was paying you specifically to do it.
Appreciate the post.
edit: Could I get an appraisal from you guys. People in the thread linked in first post is quoted 180-200$. I'm handling this bike for a friend.
Any response welcome.
Thanks

Around where I am, I would say ~250 from the pictures you have. It is a fairly big frame and I don't see them move as well. If it is set up perfect in terms of looks and mechanics, maybe $325. Once you get in the $400 range, you get people who either really like Peugeots (you got to wait for a while), people who want a vintage bike and have disposable income (might not be pretty enough for them), or knowledgeable bike folks (who would want to buy this cheap and work on it themselves). In other words, this is a inbetweener bike, too nice to sell for cheap and not nice enough to sell for a lot.
