1996 Trek 5200 OCLV 58cm

Hi,

I'm interested in buying this bike off craigslist but am clueless if this is a good price or not. Seller asking $400. Any help is greatly appreciated. Seller thinks its around 1994 or 97'. I looked up the color scheme on vintage trek and I'm pretty sure it's a 96 (nude carbon with violet decals).

Seller didn't provide much info or any close up pictures:

"Has Shimano 600 group, vuelta bottom bracket. The frame is 22 3/4" inches and the wheels are aluminum 700. 23c"

Any help and or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Check frame for damage , make sure the shifters work , check that the wheels are true . If it's a good size for you, grab it ! Good deal , in my opinion.

+1 Good price.
I was negotiating on one, but seller wanted more than $450, so I passed.

Ugh, I just stumbled upon this post three years later...I did buy it. It was my first road bike. It was amazing. I had a great couple years on this bike before it was stolen. What I would give to get it back!

And apparently I did already have a BF account, oops.

Go in a bike shop and they act like if you buy an old carbon Trek you will die. Would love to find one on the fly.

I have an 2002 OCLV. Fast, nimble, nice bike. Price is great ONLY IF it fits you correctly.

This thread is three years old. OP came back three years later to complain about his stolen bike.

More so just to admire it longingly, and I forgot I posted here about it. Sorry for digging up the old thread.

Nothing to be sorry about. My response was for people that like to read the thread title, and drop down and reply. Lazy!
In the future ride a beater where you think a good bike might get stolen. That's what I would use for commuting around the city (Not sure of your location, or how/where the bike was stolen).
I am often amazed when I see people riding expensive bikes around the city. And locking them up with just one thin cable lock.
Of course College Campuses are prime targets for thieves as well.

I don't cycle in the city, and my bike is only locked up in a couple spots where it usually isn't seen. And If I am in a business, or on a job I will take my bike inside. If the job doesn't let me bring my bike in well I am not working for them!
