1987 Cannondale SR600

I'm a junior cyclist/triathlete and got this as my first road bike. I like this bike and might upgrade the BB and such. I just wanted to know the estimated value of it. It has the Shimano 600 brakes and cranks and the original paint. It has dura-ace brifters and and 8 speed dura-ace cassette. It has Mavic 571/2 HG hubs laced to Mavic Reflex SUP rims. It has a Terry Butterfly TI saddle (which I really need to change). If there is any more information you need, just let me know.

Nice looking bike, I always wanted a pink bike. Why do you want to change the BB? if it is working and in good shape there is little benefit from upgrading.

Thanks. I was planning on changing the BB due to some creaks I've heard/felt in the crank/pedal/BB area.

In my experience the most common causes of creaks in the Bb area are loose crank bolts, loose chainwheel bolts and non-greased pedal mounts, rarely is the bottom bracket. That said, there is a better than average chance the creeks are not really in the BB area, just sounds that way. Look at seat bolts, seats, handlebars, stems and the like.

I agree. The first thing you want to do is overhaul the BB and clean the cranks and pedals and pit everything back together and see if the creak goes away. The creak could be other things too. I had a creak on a bike I just built and it drove me crazy. Turns out its the seat and there is almost nothing I can do about it, unless I want to buy another Brooks Colt.

That bike needs nothing but some attention. Service the BB, hubs and headset and make sure the gearing is correct for you. Put on some good (read: expensive) tires and you'll be just fine.

My PB's for the Thursday Night Grand prix (Oh, excuse me, the Speedworks ride out of Wakefield rec Center) have all been set on an '88 SR500 (6 speed 105 double with down tube shifters). You should try it. Lots of high zoot carbon guys who wonder how the old Cannondales manage to keep up.
