Please Advise - How Much is this Gios Worth?
Sorry for double post, but really need to get a solid idea of how much this 1987 Gios Compact is worth, ASAP!
Sellers words:
"For Sale: 1987 blue Gios Compact Columbus SL 58 cm frameset bike with Shimano Dura Ace drive train and brakes, Campy Mexico seat post and crank set currently set up for 7 speeds."
Says it has never been ridden, and I have attached pictures for reference. Other folks on the forum have said that due to the fact that all the components aren't Campy (obviously the Shimano parts), it's not worth more than 1200-1400. Also, I have heard that SL tubing is inferior to SLX. I'm 6"2 / 195 so I think this bike would be perfect, and frankly I am absolutely in love with the aesthetics. In love with the bike, but want to make sure I am paying a fair price (I was thinking 1K max).
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated!

I think you could get more bike for 1K, but then again, if its the right bike for you to ride then its worth 1K to you, and thats what counts. I don't think what you might or mignt not be able to sell it for is material to this instance.

I'd give a reasonable offer, $1,000 and see what happens. These are great bikes. I'm riding my GIOS Compact Pro in my avatar.

Thanks very much for your responses, @howsteepisit and @RoyIII
I offered $1,000 and he told me it was worth over $3,000… but would only go as low as $1,700…? Oh well. I am going to keep pushing for $1,000.
Any other words of wisdoms / suggestions for reasonable offers would be very much appreciated. Thanks again!

I'd wish him well in selling that for $3,000. In fact, if its worth 3000,why is he willing to sell for 1700? Personally for a 1300 increase I could sit on it for a couple of years.

Just for comparison, I've had my GIOS bike 10-12 years. Here's what went into it. I built up my Compact Pro with a frame from Excel Sports for $900.00. Alloy Chorus 10 speed except for centaur shifters GIOS chrome fork $ ???.??. Chorus pedals, and headset, GIOS Sele Italia saddle, Mavic open pro Record wheels, conti 4000s tires, ritchey stem and handlebars. Chain Wippermann. I either had some parts, or bought them from Excel or eBay. It cost maybe $2500.00 to build. Just a guess. It's not an antique by my reckoning. I don't think I could get $1500.00 for it, but I wouldn't sell it. It's my favorite bike. Howsteepisit is right. and don't forget, there are plenty of these around even if GIOS does not sell in the US market these days. I'd keep looking.

Here's an idea. Look at eBay sold bikes and see what these went for.
