Is this Trek 420 worth it?
This is what the ad says:
1989 Trek 420 Sport touring
Chromoly steel frame
Sport LX components
7x3 speed
Great for restoration, single speed conversion or ride as is
22 in, 56 cm
$200 OBO
Link: 1989 Trek 420
I'm going to be a student, and I've been looking for a bike. As far as the price goes, I've negotiated it down to 160. However, I wanted to know from you all what this bike was worth. Additionally, I'm 5'8", will this bike fit me? At my LBS they only showed me hybrid bikes and said in those I would be about 18 inches, but that road bikes had a different sizing method, so I don't know my road bike size. Some help would be appreciated, since I know trek is a good brand!

If the frame is straight, is pretty much rust free and neither the stem nor the seatpost are stuck, $160 would be a good price.
Regarding the fit, depending on your leg length (legs vs torso body proportions), at 5'8" a 56cm traditional geometry frame may be good. Look at this chart and measure your leg length to get a feel for sizing.

$160 is a good price, if there's not too much work to be done to get the bike on the road. Without knowing your cycling inseam, reach, and fitting preferences, I'd say that you can make 56cm work, but you may feel stretched unless you change those bars to a short reach.
