hi everyone out there, does anyone have any idea what the value would be of an actual tour de france bike from the 1988 tour de france, it is a red colored parinelli ,the guy says was in the race , not perfect but very good condition, also no paperwork but i think he is honest,has weird looking pedals require some special shoe to attach to pedals, red tires ,gel seat , i never give the skinny tire bikes a 2nd look but this one kind of stands out, also i really cannot find anything on the web to give me a value THANKS FOR THE HELP

I would give no additional value to the bike for maybe being in the Tour or raced during the 80's. Actual details of the bike and good photo's would be needed to give a price.

You would also need documentation that PROVES it was in the race for that to have any type of value at all...not just someone's word...

Sorry for the stupid reply. I just happened to watch an episode for the first time in about a year because I heard they were appraising a couple of "muscle bikes" and the dialogue was unchanged from the last time I watched!

Provenance is everything, being able to prove that a particular machine was ridden in a specific event by a certain rider on a certain team is essential.
Otherwise it's just some old bike ridden by some guy, as they all are.

Some "guy" offered to sell the 1968 TdF Molteni team bike of Luigi Salami, known as Lo Scoiattolo recently.
Primarily known for his ability to tell knock-knock jokes in several languages and his lack of time trialing, climbing and sprinting ability Lo Scoiattolo's role in cycling history was confirmed in 1968 on the stage from St. Fred de Lourd to Ville Laide when he took the longest natural break in TdF history.

That machine is worth Serious $$$$$.

OP registered to post the question about the Tour de France bike, so-called. One post so far.

There's a history of people registering to post on here because they don't know much about bikes and think there might be something special about the bike they have. No reason to accuse the OP of trolling until proven otherwise, "funny-looking pedals" notwithstanding.

I've never heard of a Parinelli bicycle. The least the OP could do if he really wants to figure out what it's worth is to spell the brand correctly and identify the 1988 TdF rider. Some good detailed photos as well as credible provenance would also really help.

well thanks everyone for the help, let me explain my post a little, the bike in question was at a garage sale in a suburb of Detroit , owner had passed away, kids just getting rid of stuff, i basically had no interest in the bike, kind of gave it the once over,then the guy starts telling me it was in the tour de france and how the owner just kept it in the house hanging on the wall, seemed odd to me but you never know, anyway a few more details . faded pinarello lettering , underneath (trademark) area it says PINARELLO TREVISO-ITALY ip115 though i cannot tell what is before the P either an L or i even could be a 1 , FRONT WHEEL IS A OMEGA STRADA-HARDOX ,MADE IN ITALY, REAR WHEEL SAYS MAVIC MA40 ,EMR7 STAINLESS STEEL EYELET , HARD ANODIZED 650W, TIRES ARE FORTEZA TRI-COMP 23/622 , COLUMBUS DECALS ON THE BIKE ,LOTS OF (P)S ETCHED IN FRAME, AND CAMPAGNALO ON SOME AREAS , OVERALL CONDITION MAYBE HIGH 6 TO 7 OUT OF 10, FADED LETTERING A PROBLEM, BIKE IS SUPER LIGHT IN MY OPINION , WHEN YOU HOLD IT UP AND PEDAL IT USING YOUR HAND IT IS SOOOO SMOOTH AND IT IS LIKE THE WHEEL WILL NEVER STOP TURNING, AMAZING , RED SOME SILVER COMPONENTS, BLACK SEAT WITH A COVER ON IT AND TIRES ARE RED, I THINK THATS THE REASON I EVEN GLANCED AT IT, THERE ASKING BETWEEN 3 AND 4 HUNDRED , THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE

That is the very machine that Claude Jean Pierre Fromage astounded the cycling world by eclipsing Anquetil's long standing time trial record in the classic E'gout Port to Saint Fred de Graisse TT stage of the '88 TdF in Brittany by 12 minutes!

Despite being photographed taking the bus in Pauvre Village and crossing the finish line on a ladies model Hercules 3 speed (reported to police as stolen at a bus stop) instead of the wonderful historic bicycle the OP is considering purchasing it was Fromage's greatest victory. Punched bus tickets & a transfer to Saint Fred de Graisse found in his jersey pocket do little to dim his historic accomplishment.

Probably not in the TdF but some similar to it were. An 80s bike that was in the TdF, or other pro races from that time, should have one of these on the top tube, just a little ways back from the head tube.



$300 is probably a pretty good deal for a Pinarello if everything works, frame's not bent, BB's not rusted out, etc.

Pinarello decals were pretty weak back then, so it's typical to find them peeling off.

Even TDF bikes require occasional maintenance and servicing, so try not to hurt yourself.

I would completely discount the idea that it was ridden in the TdF unless the seller can offer proof that it was. However, if it really is a Pinarello with Campagnolo components it's probably worth the $300 - $400 asking price if it can be restored without becoming a money pit.
