Shogun Selectra In Good Condition

Hello, thank you for taking a look.

I am interested in purchasing this bike -the only information provided online is that the bike is in good condition, with a 21" frame size. I would be curious to know more about the bike, such as the approximate year, but especially the value.

Also, would this bike be adequate for a frequent rider (flat road), or should I look for a more modern bike? I was told that it is a downtube shifter and biopace chainrings, which I don't know much about but I am learning more now.

I appreciate any assistance!

Hello and welcome to the forums. That looks to be around an '87ish bike but more information on the components and frame will tell us more. It should be fine daily rider for most anywhere.

It looks like it might be a tad bigger than 21, but you always want to check the fit and test ride before buying. Others know far better than I but I would say depending on your location this is likely to sell for around $200 provided it is ready to ride trouble free.

Looks like it's from around the mid 80's. Strange model name for a bike, but it looks like it's a pretty decent one as most bikes from Japan in the 80's were.
Most likely a CrMo frame too (and in most cases they were even butted tubing), as lots of Japanese bikes from that era were. The collector value is low as most mid level Japanese bike just do not have the "cachet" that the Euro C&V bikes of similar model level, made by well known companies seem to naturally have, but could be a big positive as it means you get much better value for your money when buying these Japanese C&V bikes.
The $200 valuation from BG sounds to be spot on. Try to keep that as a max number to pay for it.

Thank you BG, I was looking over the forums and I can tell that you're very knowledgeable, and appreciated here. +1 more appreciative person My current bike is a Scott hybrid and it's a 22", I believe. I don't know how accurate this calculator is, but I put in my estimated measurements:

I spoke with the seller and he lowered the price from $225 to $200 for me. It's a 36 minute drive each way, I'm excited to test it out and buy it tomorrow! Thank you for your experienced perspective.

My first road bike will be pretty good, courtesy of you two. I'll post some pictures and whatnot if I'm allowed to post them here; or perhaps in general chat, and introduce myself.
