1970? Witcomb England Lightweight Track Bike, Campagnola hubs, Brooks Saddle

Hello all! This is my first post on this forum so please be gentle. I will try to respond quickly with any questions you may have.

An older co-worker and fellow engineer, after learning of my interest in cycling, gave me an old Witcomb track bike that he has loved for the past 30 years of his life. He says it was a great and very nice bike in its time. I don't know anything about Witcomb bikes or much about older bikes in general, so I came here for any information you have about this bike and a general approximation of it's value. I think it is a beautiful bike and I would like to restore it to riding condition (which wouldn't take much), or have it restored.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Witcomb was a British outfit...Richard Sachs cut his teeth there. They opened a branch in Connecticut that a lot of the top US guys spent time building for...Sacha, Weigle and Chris Chance among them. I haven't seen one in person. Value - I don't know track stuff well. It always seems to be more money than road. Figure at least $1000 with a minimum of effort. It looks like it just needs a cleaning.

Enjoy.

V-e-r-y nice. Why not put it together and try it out? If you don't want to keep it, it will be very easy to sell the complete bike for pretty good money and the extra parts will also do well.

Lovely bike, which from the looks of the headtube is just about my size...

Classic Track bikes go for fairly high prices easy. This one looks to be a verry nice example of one from the mid 70's. Nicely cleaned up and ready to ride I would figure $1000 maybe more to the right buyer.

Nothing to restore. Clean her up, get new rubber, lube the greasy parts and go. Since your co-worker loved it for 30 years you need to get started in order to match him.

BTW, if you ride her off the track, make sure to put a front brake on. If the fork isn't drilled, consult your LBS, preferably one with vintage experience. Love that bike!

+1 I would also recomend you put a front brake on it for street use. A better bike shop with vintage experiance should be able to help you out with by either drilling the fork or attching a brake clip mount if need.
