1985(i think) nishiki cresta

I'm helping my friend buy a bike
We went to go look at a nishiki and it needed more work than he was comfortable with.

It's a nishiki cresta
Looks like a full touring model. Rack and fender eyelets, triple water bottle braze ons, triple chainrings, etc.
Its too small for me but it looks like a nice bike to fix up and possibly sell or trade.

The guy wanted $120 but I asked him if he would take 75 and he agreed
Im going to take a full look at it during the week when I have the money.

It has a tange 2 frame, suntour lepree Drive train and hubs. The rear derailleur has the triple pulley.

From what I saw it needs a new freewheel, chain, cables, housing, seat and a serious overhaul on the hubs, bottom bracket and headset. All work I can do myself.
The paint is in decent shape with some rust in the paint chips

Is $75 a good price?
What do you think i could sell it for if I bought it and cleaned it up?
Would it be worth it?

No Pictures right now
The craigslist ad didnt have any

Obviously pics would help, but I will offer some thoughts. First of all, is the RD a LePree with the triple pulley? some 1985s came with Suntour's cycloid crank sets. Is that the case here? Opinions vary wildly on the oval ring concept, but whether you dig them or not they are going to be hard to find as time goes by.

A Tange 2 sport touring frame in decent shape is a good deal at $75.00. Unfortunately by the time you replace consumables and add your time, you'll have a hard time making a big profit.

If it fits your friend, fix it up for him.

Does it have cantilever brakes? There's a strong market for touring bikes. If the paints decent and the frame is straight $75 is a good deal.

I have an 86 Cresta that I love. They are great! Vintage touring bikes can be money makers. With no pics, no estimates are valid. If the frame is good; I'd buy it. It sounds like you can do the work and maybe you can save some of the border line parts.

Mine needs better tires and white bar tape.

It's a full touring bike. Has cantilevers. I'm thinking I'll pump 60 dollars into it and add a rack and frame pump I have lying around dress it up.

You can't sell in this part of the forums.......take a bunch of pictures and post on Craigslist for your best/quickest return. Post the ad link in the CV appraisal area to get ball park values...
