1982 Schwinn Sprint Appraisal

Hey guys, I am a newbie and recently got into road biking. I am looking to purchase an older road bike and was looking into a 1982 Schwinn Sprint that I found on Craigslist. Any input regarding the bike would be helpful regarding condition and appraisal. Thanks!

That's an '86 or '87 in the Grey Firemist color: Schwinn 1986 Lightweight Bicycles -- Sprint

That was just about the cheapest Schwinn available at the time, with low-end components and steel wheels. It has no collector value but it looks clean. If it fits and you really want it for riding I'd try to pay $100 or maybe $125.

Hi there...and welcome...

I am going to have to disagree a bit with my esteemed colleague...I would not go anywhere above about $60 for that particular bike...if even that much...there is much better available for the $100+ range...IMHO...

Agree with well lower than $100.
You should be able to get something higher up the Schwinn food chain for $100 (or close), such as a Le Tour, Prelude or Tempo.

BTW good time to buy bikes are when the season is cold (at least in the North), and first thing in the spring - when people clean the garage and just want it gone.

Good luck, and keep posting the deals you see to the Bike Forum, The view of multiple sets of eyes from experienced people have saved me a few times!
And don't get discouraged if you don't get quite the deals as some........
