1970s Mercier - What exactly is it and how much is it worth?

Hey everyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I'm hoping someone could help me out with identifying the year/model and anything interesting about this bike.

It has a shimano 600 groupset, reynolds 351 tubing, the headbadge has the number 105222 on it with 'made in france', the original "fait main" (handmade) sticker is on it. Zero rust and decent condition for how old the tires are.

I bought it for $50 but I am wondering how much it could go for (do people collect these bikes?) if I replace the shifting and brake cables and do a little bit of work on the hubs, cleaning, etc.

Thanks!

Pics matter as condition plays a big role in any valuation. Reynolds 531 tubing bikes are nice bikes and it is certainly worth more than the $50 you paid for it (assuming that the frame and parts are in reasonable shape).

Location matters a lot in valuation. Here in the IA, that bike isn't going to bring anywhere near as much money as it would in a larger city.

For $50 you did good, wherever you are. For an approximate build date check the Shimano parts for date codes. They are probably original. This site is very useful for that. I'd say 3rd quarter of the seventies. Its value depends very much on the local market. Here in Holland in would fetch €100 - €150, if presented well. In hot US markets you should do a little better than that.

Hey so I'm from Victoria, BC (Canada) [near Vancouver] so I do know road bikes get pretty expensive.

For example, this Nishiki Olympic is going for $295 Nishiki Olympic Outside Victoria, Victoria

Also this Apollo is going for $300 vintage apollo road bike 10 speed tuned up and ready to ride Saanich, Victoria

If in pretty nice condition, is this bike a higher quality bike than the Nishiki and Apollo?

I was under the impression I could be selling it for about $500 not tuned.

Thanks for the link!

I was thinking that ballpark as well. I am thinking $500 (Canadian)
