'98? Cannondale R600
Hey all, I've been looking for a second (older) road bike, and this one caught my eye. It's a 1998 (I think) Cdale r600, Shimano Rx100 components, carbon fork, looks like it is in great condition. Seller is asking 300, good deal?

I'd pass. New front wheel and fork indicate a possible accident, so frame integrity may be in question.

Have you actually gone to see the bike? Is it the right size?
I would not necessarily rule it out until I know more about how the fork and front wheel got replaced. Was the fork bent in an accident, or did the Seller replace the fork because he/she wanted a carbon upgrade?
What happened to the original front wheel?
Non-original parts are a sign that the bike could have been in a accident, and should be checked by a bike shop before you buy it, AND non-original parts usually lower the market value of the bike.
After checking the bike over to make sure that there's isn't any frame damage, I'd offer the Seller $200, and see what he says. I probably would not pay $300 for it with the non-matching front wheel, but if I like the bike in person, and it fits, I might be willing to pay more than my $200 first offer.
Take cash with you.

Can understand the issues with swapping part on a new bike, but anything over a couple of years which has been used will have worn some parts out / have had parts replaced for fit, as this one looks like is has had, with the short stem and saddle.

Is the fork really a replacement? looks pretty similar to this https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...t-caad-47.html and 1998 Cannondale R600 - BikePedia for the front wheel, I have a 1995 531 road bike, and the front wheel is changed 2-3 times a year, as it's easier to swap the wheels rather than tires, which can be replaced later.

Yeah it's the original fork. It's a carbon composite fork I believe. The mis matching wheels would drive me nuts. I think I'm gonna pass, don't really need it at this point.
Now I found some woman selling a motobecane fantom CX cross bike for 50 dollars! I couldn't believe it, probably the best deal I've ever encountered, but it got snatched away before I could get it.

It fell out of the roof rack wheel holder somewhere in the Gila Mountains.

If it fits, $300 is a fair price.
