Cinelli - PLEASE HELP!!

3 Attachment(s)
Good Evening,

I am a long time lurker and have been lusting after a Vintage Cinelli. I finally found one in my size locally but am a little perplexed by the example. Can someone please let me know there thoughts. I am considering purchasing and know it is a project but there are some flags. Any thoughts from the pics? Any thoughts on fair value? Looks like a re-paint and it has some original Campy NR parts.

Thank you!!

Duisburg

I can't be sure but I think it actually is a Cinelli with a repaint. I bet all the silver bits and decals are original.

Sure is a beaut. I could really care less about a repaint or not. Are you buying it to sell later on or a keeper? Some people like that originality and some like bikes that look like they just rolled out of the paint booth.

Welcome to Bikeforums! Look under the bottom bracket for a serial and see if there's an oil port hole. Or, take pictures of the upper and lower lugs, should have holes and the right side for drive train components. Super nice bike, is the seller a friend? Good luck, Gioscinelli

I also think it is a repaint with a really poor masking around the decals. I'd be wary of what that paint is covering. Post 1974 (aluminum headbadge) pre 1978 (new logo).

I am looking at purchasing. IMO it is a repaint ....the appropriate # is on the bottom #208 ?

It needs some work. I agree my concern is what is hiding under the paint. Maybe nothing but how do I find out?

This would be a keeper and restoration. Is it worth $1300 US?

Yes. There aren't many of these out there, irregardless of condition. There's a lot of demand. I paid more than that for a 69' in uglier shape than yours. The seatpost looks odd, but it might just be the photo.

Assuming no major rust that can compromise the frame, you can do a full resto at that price and still get most of your money back if you move it on.

I'd like to see more pictures......It appears to be all Record/Nuovo Record, high flange hubs. I'm not sure about the brake calipers and levers.

Interesting handlebar position.

It is Nuovo Record and the brakes, rims and seat are not original. I believe most everything else is.

Moving from C&V to Appraisals

Is $1300 US a reasonable price?

Yes. If it didn't have that black paint on it, it would be a two thousand dollar bike, assuming the black paint isn't covering up any big problems.

You mention restoration, you should take the bike to Noah at Velocolour, since you are local to him. It may be pretty expensive to repaint it....

One thing that bothers me about this is that if it is indeed a partial repaint (black covering dings and decals masked out) that the headbadge is a self-adhesive model without the mount holes & screws that would be on a Cinelli with decals that old.
Everything else looks right for a Cinelli bike of this vintage. Maybe the headbadge fell off, maybe the dude eBayed it separately to help him sell this for $1300? Just wonderin'
