1984 Specialized Sequoia

I think I have a pretty good idea of what it is worth, but I just want to confirm it with the experts. I put an offer in at way below the BIN, but at what I feel was a fair price plus 10% and it was rejected immediately.

Any ideas on what a fair price would be, assuming $40-$50 additional to ship it.

Five hundred clamolas for a frameset is, in my estimation, Way high, but if the shoe fits...

I've purchased several Sequoias from the original owners for a lot less. That said, if a 65cm is what you need, you won't find many of them out there, and to have Rivendell duplicate one from scratch will be a Lot more, well then, it's a bargain.

65cm frames aren't too common so the price can either be reduced if a seller is having trouble finding buyers or it can be raised if you have a buyer looking for a frame that fits them. That seems like a pretty steep asking price for that frame and would be much higher than I'd be willing to spend unless I were getting desperate looking for the right size frame. Fortunately I don't need a 65cm frame and I got a 60cm version of that bike for about $500 less - and it included all the original components as well.

These are definitely nice frames, and the value (to you) depends largely on whether you want this exact make, model and size. I purchased an identical Sequoia in mint condition recently for less than the seller here is asking for the frame alone. They are somewhat rare, but they do come up from time to time...

Agree with $300-ish.

Wait the seller out. It's off season and the number of potential buyers is fairly limited.

This is hardly a "one of a kind". If you can wait, another will show up.

Thanks everyone! I am glad to see that it was just mot me being my usual cheap self and was low balling the seller. My top offer was $300 and I got an automatic decline from the seller. Somebody else may need it more than I do, but that was at the very high end of what I thought it should sell for.

I was looking more for a touring frame like an Expedition anyway, but the Sequoia was always on my want to try list and would work just as well for what I intend to use it for.

@orcas island, when doing the Google on values yours was one the Sequoias I was basing what I thought it was worth. So thank you for putting that out there. Yours is certainly a very fine example.

I have overpaid on occasion to get the frame I want. You could probably work him down on price, though. But don't miss it if it is what you want. I had an Expedition and it rode like a yacht, very plush, but heavy. I always wanted a Sequoia. What will you be using this bike for?

I was looking to get something to replace my Bridgestone 400. Something that will take 32-35c tires or 28's and fenders, canti's would ne ideal but not a must. The Bridgestone is almost perfect for me except for the top tube being about 3cm longer than I need.

He may change his mind if he doesn't get any higher offers soon. A few months ago I was in the market to get a bike to keep at my daughter's place. Checked out a bike offered on Craigslist for $500 which looked good but was more than I wanted to spend for a bike that would only get occasional use. Offered a little over $300 and was turned down and we parted on good terms. About two weeks later I get an email from the seller asking if I still need a bike and that he had decided my offer was a fair one. Unfortunately by then I had bought something else but would rather have had his.
