Bilato TSX Lemond Team Z Candidate

After a few months of searching for a 56cm Bilato TSX Lemond Team Z, I found one. Trying to get an idea of a fair price to offer the seller. The bike is mint, all original, Delta brakes, the whole deal. The seller states that it has been under a cover in his garage for 8 years and has ridden it once. The bike was too big for him and he stored it away. I've been talking with him for the last month about bike stuff, etc. Super nice guy.

Anyhow, I'm just curious to see what you think the bike would be worth. I'm thinking $1800 - $2000. Going to have to sell a couple of bikes to make room. It's a very very nice example and I'm super excited I found it.

Thanks for your opinion.

I think I'd offer the guy $1000 and see what he comes back with. Nice FJ 'cruiser in the background.

Mmmmm....if I owned this bike and someone offered me a $1000, I'd laugh in his face.

No problem... nothing ventured, nothing gained. It doesn't really matter what you think the bikes worth, but what the owner thinks it's worth. He may be getting pressure from wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/etc. to get rid of it and may come back at you with $1500. But if you want to start out at $2000... c'est la vie.

I didn't mean to sound harsh but this is a very nice, hard to find bike. He's not rushing to sell it by any means. Hell, he's still deciding whether or not to sell it to me.

I don't think a 1,000 offer is laugh worthy at all. I like it a lot, but billato Lemonds aren't THAT valuable. It's obviously in excellent shape with a c-record group, and it's a beauty. If I had this and sold it, I'd expect 1500 on eBay, or 1300 after fees. I wouldn't criticize someone for paying 2000 if they want it, but I also wouldn't call a 1000 offer outrageous.

At the end of the day, you have to determine what it's worth TO YOU. On eBay, I'd place its value at around 1200-1600. Probably in the middle of that range.

Nice looking bike. I would have a hard time paying anywhere near the $2000 asking price for the bike. The Delta brakes are worth a lot to the right person and the LeMond Team bikes are collectible. That being said, about a year ago I purchased a Bilato/Billato built Tommaso TSX frame, fork, headset, bottom bracket, crankset and downtube stops for $200 shipped. A lot of bike makes/models are re-badged Bilato built bikes. My frame is identical to some of the LeMond Team bikes and is nearly identical to the LeMond you are looking at. It even has a wild paint scheme. Mine isn't near as collectible as the LeMond and it doesn't have the Delta brakes but mine was more than $1600 less fully built up.

I completely understand. What its worth to me is the most important factor. For some odd reason, this particular bike calls me. I mean really...if you owned this exact bike and someone offered you $1000, would you accept?

Nice bike. Currently building this one up:

The Team Z is expensive. A lot of thinking to do.

Nice build you are working on. I like many others cruising this site have a lot of bikes. I ride all my bikes the same amount. In my mind I just can't justify spending a lot on one particular bike. Now, if I wasn't a bike nut and had a lot fewer bikes I would be tempted to invest a lot in what I considered a 'special' bike.

No.

But I am never in a rush to sell anything.

It depends on who offered and what I had paid. I don't think it's a ridiculous offer.

I would start by asking the owner what he wants for the bike and work from there. I've already given you an estimate off line and think that after seeing the pictures this particular example would be at the high end of that range. For Lemond freaks these are very collectible bikes, regardless of other Billato frame examples.

I also know what I paid for a NOS example of one of these (frame/fork) in my size and it was, shall we say, very dear.

Very dear, indeed

hell no

i try not to let a trivial thing like a few hundred bucks spoil a good time--- if i truly like something nice, i open the wallet
In something like this that is pretty few and far between, i would pay up so i could enjoy it rather than the next guy

My other hobby is firearms, - bikes are cheap in comparison to Colt revolvers

There you have it.

The price of an item is generally long forgotten but the pleasure of ownership remains.
