Need more info on a 1991 Cannondale black lightning

I am new to road bikes, someone was looking to trade a 1991 Cannondale black lightning for mr 2012 trek 4300 disk. I was just wondering if this was a fair trade for me.

His bike : Cannondale Black Lightning

With no cash involved I'd trade my Trek 3900 mountain bike in a heartbeat - mostly because it's a Trek.

But personally I'd sooner have this one below, copied from another thread. I guess I'm partial to blue.

Seems to be about a fair trade to me, as your 4300 may be worth $350 +/-, depending upon condition.
The BL looks to be in good cosmetic condition. Check the aluminum frame at the welds to make sure there are no cracks. Appears to be a 60cm frame, for 6'1" or taller riders.

When comparing that BL to the catalogs available online, it doe not appear to be a 1991 model. It's a 1988 or older, as it does not have the cantilevered rear hangers. Getting a description of the group would be more definitive (assuming they are still original).

I would say the trade seems fair sense both bikes are worth about the same $350 or so. I would say the cash asking price on the Canondale is a bit high by $100-150.

^ Agreed. I recently had a 1989 SR500 Black Lightning in to a local shop that specializes in repairs and in selling refurbished older bikes. After getting the headset replaced, the owner told me he'd list my bike for $400.
