Or what number of gears on the downtube sifters? Or are you looking to just go friction?

I have a very nice set of 7700 down tube shifters, if you are interested. Would let them go for $55 shipping included. Let me know if you want pictures.

Got in a hurry...and forgot details!
For the Shifters...I would need 8 speed...and could go full friction. The other parts of the group that I will be using are 74XX...but, with the shifters/brake levers, no particular era is needed.
For the Brake Levers, would like Aero...but not Brifters (Brake/Shift Levers)...obviously (since I am getting DT Shifters)

Oddly enough, yes. You can use nine speed Shimano shifters with a Dura Ace 74xx RD and index correctly on an eight speed cassette. The limit screw on the 74xx RD will stop the shifter from moving to its final position. Also, if at some point you want to throw on any SIS compatible RD the shifters will index a nine speed cassette.
