Large (23") Raleigh Mountain Tour

This is kind of a tough one, since it's a big, heavy bike and will expensive to ship. But anyhoo...

Portland, OR area note: jun 10, 11, 12 I will be in Portland ($150 delivered to your door, or meeting place of your choice!)

Raleigh Elkhorn Mountain Tour (probably a 1986) complete, less pedals and rack, as shown in final photo
$170 + actual shipping.

I think it's all original components, but not sure. LARGE frame, seat tube 23" top tube 23.5" c-t-c

3x6 18 speed drivetrain. Araya rims, hi-flange hubs, bottom bracket all labeled "Raleigh Sealed Bearings" etc

Drive side chain stay says "Mountain Tour Geometry" and "21-93" (referring to gearing range, in gear-inches, I think?)

Shimano BRAT-50 brake calipers, dunno on the lever model, whatever was current to that.

Suntour Power Thumb Shifters
Suntour XC Sport derailleurs

Sakae FX crankset half step + granny, just right for your drop-bar touring conversion. (Must be 6 ft+)

Groovy slingshot style stem, Cro-Mo bars

Everything is in pretty nice condition. There are plenty of little chips and scratches in the paint, as seen in the photos. No dents in tubing, nothing bent.

If anyone is interested in just the frameset + (whatever parts), please feel free to speak up, as this bike will have to be disassembled quite a bit for shipping anyway. Anyone local to western Washington, yes, we can arrange a pickup-dropoff meet up.

'cause when you're mountain touring, sometimes you gotta hoist the whole damn thing up and lug it over a washout, or something.

So awesome. My Alyeska from the same era is my smoothest, most well behaved ride, loaded or unloaded.

I love old mtbs and ride 2 regularly. This bike is in great shape and I'd love to own one from the early 80s. I'm thinking this is a better local sale since it would go pretty easily on CL in Seattle/Portland. Still if someone on BF wants an old mtb in great shape, those bikes just don't pop up every day.

PortAngleles, WA. It's only a 4 1/2 hour drive. I used to do it all the time, back when I used to live up off of Killingsworth.

I had one of those, a yellow one, different year probably. My first store bought mtn bike..

Edit: Actually, mine was a Teton. Pink cable housing to match the lettering on the frame.

This thread made me go measure my Schwinn Moab, which I don't think I've ever done before. It's a 21" seat tube, but a nice long 23 1/2" top tube. It fits great, which is why I never bothered measuring. Taller MTBs are a little hard to find.

I had the Crested Butte version of this bike and have used an Elkhorn frame to build up someone a kick butt touring bike. Great bike!

if you do sell as a frame, do the next person a favor and include the cantis with the frame as Raleigh used braze on posts with the mounting hole in a strange place so only a few brakes will fit these posts and sourcing them after the fact is a pain.

Some of those Raleight MTBs have 650b wheels. I have one, forget the model, like that and bullmoose bars.
