1985 Cilo SLX frame/fork/HS/BB/seatpost

Putting this frame and fork combo up for grabs since it doesn't fit me. Make no mistake, I'd be holding onto it if it were closer to my size. Rides like a champ.

1985 Cilo SLX frame and fork

*Handbuilt in Lausanne, Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva
*Seat tube measures ~52.5cm c-to-c (I think they call it a 53cm)
*Top tube measures ~53.5cm c-to-c
*Columbus SLX tubing (though the decal has deteriorated)
*Original chrome fork
*Gipiemme dropouts and fork ends

I'd give the paint a 7/10, with small chips here and there. Chrome is an 8/10. There are some nicks on one side of the rear triangle, some tire rub on one side, and a couple small dings on the drive-side chainstay from the chain having come off (previous owner). No dents in the frame otherwise. Just want to be honest so you know what's being offered.

The frameset will come with the Kalloy seatpost and Italian-threaded Shimano sealed BB, both of which are 3 months old and have a couple hundred miles on them. Also includes the Velo Orange ISO-threaded Grand Cru headset, with the same amount of use. Last, the downtube cables stops will come with it, which are were filed to fit the Shimano "B" type bosses brazed onto the frame.

$335 shipped in the CONUS
or
$300 shipped in the CONUS without the VO headset
both options done via Paypal friends and family

I'll pack and ship via USPS, which I've done before and had success with.

Happy to take questions on this thread, or take reasonable offers via PM.

Thanks!

And here she is all dressed up with DA:

Thursday evening price drop!

I'd really prefer this go to someone on the forum than to the 'bay.

That's a great frameset, Swiss Built . If it was a 60cm I would take it.

I paid $400 for an identical model, complete with 2x6 DA, plus shipping, about 4 years ago. I know, not a good frame of reference. My brother-in-law liked it so much we had it powdercoated in the same red and put new decals on it. It remains his favorite bike, and he has a Cinelli with 8-sp Chorus Ergo.

Thanks! Wish it were bigger, too. Someone ought to enjoy it.

Wow, that sounds like quite a deal. Hard to compare, indeed. The thread(s) you were posting to were my main reference point when I was trying to figure out what this frameset was all about. Thanks for the documentation, at least! Glad your brother-in-law is riding his!

If it said Cinelli on it, or some other Italian name, it would get more interest. Not many know of the fine Cilo frames, both in Columbus and Tange tubing. Any SLX frameset would be a good one to buy, I'm just not up on the pricing. I've not seen a Cilo frame or bike that wasn't well done and equal or better than most of the frames out there. The Tange frames I've seen by Cilo had really nice multicolor paint schemes, and all the CLX frames I've seen have been this red scheme with the chrome fork.

Your price is probably fair, figure $100 less than a similar frameset with the name Merckx or Colnago on it, purely due to brand recognition, or lack thereof.

On more price drop and a Monday bump. Imagine this will go to the 'bay at the end of the week. If you're interested or on the fence, PM me and we'll see if we can work something out.

The 531 frames are nice, too. I have a circa '72 Cilo which is a wonderful bike and gets a lot of use. Interesting to note that the top tube on this '85 model is slightly longer than the seat tube, which is also true of my frame (56cm seat tube, 56.5cm top tube, iirc). They seem to have found a good formula and stuck with it. Good for those like me with a relatively long torso. I also expect it to offer a great ride.

Thanks Robbie!

Frame is still up for sale...the prospective buyer spent his monies elsewhere.

PM or @mention me in a comment if you're interested.

Mine ended up taking a 26.6 seatpost. I ordered this (cheap) one and it fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CJV7AK/

Mods can close this thread as the frame is long gone.
