I want an excuse to use one of these.

ryansu 02-19-18 06:19 PM

@noglider I think the intention with this lever is to allow someone with a weak hand to operate both brakes at once not to lay down a sick skid patch:lol:

I have an older lever, I was told they are used for bicycle polo. Whatever that is...

Years ago in Richmond I played Mtb polo with a group of guys. It was tons of fun but we didn’t use any special bike gear. Our mallets were broomsticks with home made heads and after some experimentation, a water polo ball. Definitely a young mans game as there were lots of crashes and pretzeled wheels. On reflection, one of those levers would have come in handy.

Yes, I know. It's ideal for someone with a one-hand disability. But I want an excuse for it. Like maybe I'll put a third brake on my tandem. Honestly, the two brakes suffice, though.

There are a few reasons for a lever like this one. It is not uncommon for a Tandem bike to have 3, or 4 brakes, one might have one lever dedicated to a rear drum brake, and then tie two rim brakes together.

Perhaps also tying right and left brakes together on a trike.

I have one of these for my daughter's bike, she has one hand and a short left arm, this will allow her to brake both front and rear with one lever. At one time she had both brake levers on the right side.

This was my impression about one of the intended uses for these as well. Thanks for sharing :)

Can we now continue to comment and speculate on various uses?

Glad you had a buyer.

I have one of those on my Gas powered stand up scooter so the other hand can control the throttle. It has a rocker device inside to equalize the pull force to each cable. Works well.

WGB 09-12-18 06:43 PM

Well, I've got it and yes its really neat little item. My youngest was raised on Mountain bikes and distrusts drop bars. Just have to find the right flat bar and away we go......

velojym 09-12-18 10:16 PM

I've seen these before, and thought it might be a way to get some extra braking oomph on a super-clyde bike. 3 brakes... either run a couple discs on the dual lever, and a rim brake on another... or even two of these... dual discs and vbrakes!

jrsbike 09-13-18 01:28 PM

I had something like this for a four shoe Ceriani front brake on my 70s Ducati roadracer. They came stock on Suzuki 750 "water buffalo" two strokes.

I have a Mafac (I think) lever like this on my early eighties Gitane tandem. It actuates a rear drum and a rear cantilever brake simultaneously. It's still in project bike state so I can't report on the effectiveness.

ryansu 09-21-18 02:25 PM

and to think that this little part that was just gathering dust at back of a drawer would spark such lively discourse....
@WGB glad it arrived. Hope it does the trick
