FS: 1984 Centurion Pro Tour 15, 22" F&F + extras

*** Frameset is SOLD ***

The bike shed has long since passed critical mass, so I will be listing several framesets to ease the crunch.

Offered here is a 1984 Centurion Pro Tour 15 frameset. The catalog page can be found here. This is one of the premier touring frames from their heyday in the mid-1980s. This particular model is renowned as a well-designed touring rig, including the internal wiring for a stay-mounted generator.

I found this with some strange modifications: triathlon bars, 700c wheels with skinny tires, Deore RD, but it still had the original rack mounted. It had been purchased used off of CL by the previous owner (6'4"), used once then he realized it was the wrong size, and put away for years until I found it. I've left what I found that was stock per the catalog.

Asking $SOLD + shipping, via PayPal. I'll charge cost, about $40 shipping to the lower 48, more elsewhere. Local pickup always welcome.

The condition of this is very good, with no rust / corrosion and no dents, dings, etc. Chrome is good with no pitting, but could use a bit of polish to really make it bling. There are scratches in the paint throughout the bike, often exposing the chrome underneath. Especially annoying (to me) are the pock-marks on the rear of the seat tube, as the paint took some abuse from what I assume was gravel riding.

Specs
  • Material: Tange Champion No. 2 frame and fork, double-butted
  • Seat tube (ctc): 54cm
  • Top tube (ctc): 56cm
  • Head tube: 12.5cm
  • Chain stays (ctc): 43.5cm
  • Dropout spacing: 126mm
  • Threading: Standard
  • Seatpost size: 27.0mm
  • Canti post spacing: f - 60mm, r - 66mm
  • Dropouts and frame (via Sheldon string test) confirmed straight

Price includes
  • Frame & Fork
  • Headset: Tange Levin
  • Seatpost: SR Laprade, 27.0 fluted
  • Seat: Centurion-branded Vette Anatomic, with leather top
  • Brakes: Gran Compe 960 cantilevers (I think, please correct me here)
  • Brake cable hangers: Dia-compe branded
  • Shifters: Suntour Symmetic (self-trimming)
  • Original aluminum tubular rack
  • Frame fasteners as shown

Issues
  • The paint has quite a few marks. Since the whole frame is chromed, I believe, the missing paint often reveals a bright surface underneath, making it obvious.
  • The shifter mount is on top of the down tube, which can make mounting bar-end or brifters a bit problematic. Solutions to make this work can be found (e.g. here)
  • The bike came with 700c wheels, but I never evaluated the brake performance with these. I'll assume that the frame/fork and included brakes can work with both, but I can't guarantee this.
Please ask if there's anything unclear or you'd like to see more or better pictures.

Of course this has to pop up when I'm completely broke. That is a beautiful specimen! I've been hunting one of these for a while now. I think I have a trade deal worked out for one, but I wouldn't mind owning 2... Hmm, I may have to see about liquidating some of my bmx stuff in an attempt to snag this!

Thanks guys. I have a few framesets / bikes to unload, so I thought I ought to come up with a template to make it easier on me.
