Lotus Legend - 1982 All Original - Virtually Unridden

Picked this up a couple of years ago from a guy who obviously almost never rode it, then hurt his back and put it in his heated basement where it sat for 30+ years.

I took it home, broke it down, cleaned and lubed all parts, "frame-savered" it, washed it, waxed it, polished every spoke with 0000 steel-wool, trued the wheels to my anal standards, replaced the dried out tires (with veloflex master 25mm), replaced the likewise dried out barwrap, and the like-wise/like-wise dried out brake hoods.

What I did not do was replace cables, cable housings, chain, chainrings, cassette...not even the brake pads. There was no reason to; chain, for example, showed no stretch. Gold anodizing not even worn off chain or cogs.

I put on some different pedals (originals back on and I have original clips and straps) took it out for a ride, and it's been an admired but unridden piece of the small Cloozoe C&V & Aerospace Museum ever since.

Totally complete and original down to the (removed but I have it) dork disk.

For a complete list of parts and other details:

Lotus Legend Bicycle

Scroll down to chart for 1980-1982 Legend.

ST- 57cm c-c
TT- 57cm c-c
HT- 168mm

Asking $650. Much prefer local pickup (I'm in central NJ) or would be willing to meet you within 100 miles or so.

This thing is a time capsule.

Google. Apparently some people can see them, some can't, or they can be seen intermittently. Don't know what to do about it. If anyone else who's interested can't see them, PM me and I'll be glad to email them to you.

"Rolling on smooooooth pavement."

Is that true, tmh657? If so, I'm envious as all hell. I'm rolling on chip seal laid down in the last century, covered with debris and riddled with frost heave and pot holes you could lose a goat in. Not sure it qualifies as "rolling"

I try my best to avoid junky bike paths and roads although I ran over a pice of debris yesterday and sliced a practically new Veloflex Master. BTW your photos show over at Paceline so go figure. It's probably an issue with no answer and will work itself out. If not tell Google to do what we always do- roboot the server..

Thanks, all, for kind comments. If those of you who can't see pics are at work, shame on you! I trust you'll figure out how much time you've wasted and hence how much of your salaries to rebate back to the beloved firm.

If when you get home pictures still don't show, feel free to shoot me a request to email them to you. Don't mind at all and obviously no obligation - you don't even have to pretend you're thinking about buying it.

Best way to insure local pickup? No pictures.

AlthoughI admit it rankles when people don't have the courtesy to send a quick reply saying "got the pics; thanks".
Kind of the way it rankles when you are really interested in a bike, you know other people are also, and you can't evaluate the bike to even try to negotiate a deal before someone else does.

BTW, this bike is too large for me, but there are quite a few of us that would be interested in a nice Lotus.

Not sure quite what I've done to merit this nastygram, cpsqlrwn: I took a lot of good pictures, cropped and edited them, downloaded them to a hosting site, inserted them properly here best I can figure. Some people can see them, I can see them, some people can't, but I don't know why not nor what to do about it, other than offer to send them to anyone who would like them. I'm unhappy that the listing is proving so problematic; obviously it wasn't deliberate on my part with the sole purpose of annoying you...although having now made your unpleasant, smug acquaintance, I guess I'll just view that as a fringe benefit.

Pics not showing for me. When I Google search Lotus Legend I can see your pics in miniature. When I click on that I get an error image. Methinks you may have copied and pasted the wrong Google URL.

Let's try this...

Here's one of the images from a different hosting service, Imgur. If everyone can see it, I'll redo all the images in the original post using them.

Don't think so; saw the difference between linking to thumbnail and copying actual image url, and too many people can see them for that to be the case, seemingly. But I could be wrong - happened once before in the late 1980s

In any event, I'm experimenting with a different host and we'll see how that goes. Thanks for your input.

I apologize for the post. Not trying to be offensive. Just expressing the frustration that I am sure some people are feeling with not being able to see first hand what might be a fairly sought after bike here at the forum.

Is the bike listed anywhere else where pictures are proving to be less difficult?

I noticed you have this up on the Paceline Forum and it is behaving the same way there for me. Your offer for email is fine and I know you have gone to a lot of work getting these pictures together. The fact that you are having what appears to be the same problem at both sites would indicate that there might be some permission issue preventing the pictures from rendering under certain types of access. I know from past experience that the fact that you can see the pictures may be meaningless when it comes to other people's ability to view them if there are some account or settings issues in place at the hosting site. There is also the possibility that there is some procedural issue with how the pictures were posted that is preventing the proper display although that would not account for some people being able to view them. Also, posting images through Google has caused other members similar problems from time to time. Good luck getting it solved and good luck with the sale.

On the plus side, I applaud you for having the size measurements posted clearly. It is very frustrating to be interested in a bike where the size is either not clearly stated or it is unclear with regard to c-c or c-t. Again, good luck with the sale, I apologize for the tone of my post, and I hope you get the pictures resolved!

Later Edit: I just noticed your posting from the Imgur site and I can see that picture no problem. Good job. It's a beautiful bike. Wish it were my size!

Thanks for the gracious apology. I, in turn, am sorry to have reacted so crankily. I think (hope!) whatever either I or Google had done wrong in the first place has been resolved with the new host.

Lovely bike. Google Photos is finickety. Links appear to work better when copied while you're in an album directory, not while viewing individual photos. Don't use the 'Get Link' from the Share Icon, just right click on pic and Copy Image Location. Still no guarantees
