Rider frames - Raleigh Comp, Guerc GLX, Ranson
I have three frames up for sale to clean out some room for new projects. Straight, no known dents or deeper than surface rust on any of the three. Prices are plus shipping from 35223.
First is a 1974 Raleigh Competition. Full 531db frame, Huret dropouts w/Huret stop position. 60cm center-to-center seat-tube, 57.5mm c-c top-tube. 122mm OLD rear spacing. Nutted brakes, English threading. Decals are there but some are nearly invisible. Plenty of patina. Chrome is peppered.
LINK to album with more pics. Comes with a new-looking but tight-feeling cartridge bottom bracket. Might be due to the 67mm BB shell width, as the NDS cup doesn't contact the shell when fully tightened. I did not try a spacer, but that would be my first shot. Also comes with the complete original headset, though not all of it is pictured.
$85 for what's pictured. I also have the OE stem and handlebar, not pictured, but would throw in for an additional $15. (the brake levers may still be on there, too)
SOLD
Next up is a Ranson. What the heck is a Ranson? This bike came from Cycles Derycke in Brussels, it appears c1980 based on the OE components. May have been a house brand. 531db tubing throughout. ST is 58cm c-c, TT is 56.5mm. 126mm OLD. English threads. Nutted brakes. I put more miles on this frame than the other two, but it needs a full restore/paint as surface rust is attacking, I've rattlecanned the fork and part of the TT over the years, but it needs full attention.
LINK to album. Paint and decal it up as a FauxNago.
$65 for this one. SOLD
And third is a Guerciotti. May look the best of the three at first, but don't let it fool you. Columbus SLX tubing. 59cm c-c ST with 58cm c-c TT and 126mmOLD. Italian threads. Recessed brakes. The original owner was a TSD sponsored rider, and this frame has RAAM provenance (well, it traveled across the country as a backup but never came off the rack ) My best guess from talking with the OO is that it's from about 1989, but definitely sometime in the late 80s. This bike had been neglected for years, had a "personalized" paint job, and needed help. Both dropout adjusters were stuck & the steerer was full of dirt. I retapped one dropout, the other I broke off either a tap or drill bit in it - so don't expect to fix it. The steerer threads would not hold my alloy DA top nut, so I ran the headset with a steel 600(?) nut. Chrome has some encroaching rust, cleared over but reappearing. I changed over to DA 7 speed after first running an 8 speed, as removing the rear wheel was a pain w/8 as the cog would hit the chainstay end. Now on to the paint job. It's the worst paint job I've ever done. And I repainted the BB shell area after having some chain drop issues, so it's extra thick there. It rides great, though, just a little longer TT than I like.
LINK to album
Since this one is the readiest, $100. And I have some bottles and matching red Look pedals that if you're interested I'll I make a deal on. SOLD

Raleigh is sold. It appears the Guerc is back available. And I'm dropping both it and the Ranson another $5 from the prices above.

I'm interested in the Ranson. Any idea the ST and HT angles, also the max tire clearance with 700c?

They don't feel either steep nor slack, but I'll see if I can get any more precise. The front fork has some room, but the limitation was in the rear. I considered it as a gravel bike, but it definitely wouldn't clear the 35s I had in mind. I don't recall the limit though. I'll try a 29 in there tonight.

Shoot, forgot about trying angles.
But tire width: I tested with Challenge P-R 27s pumped to 100psi, measured 29mm width by my calipers. Front has room to spare. The rear handled it easily and 30s would be fine, maybe even 32s - but 32s probably wouldn't leave a lot for picking up mud & road debris. I would not plan to use above an actual 30 width. YMMV.
I'm back. Not really scientific, using an inexpensive tape measure with an attached rotating bubble level. I measured the Ranson and checked two Treks to "confirm" my finding. The Ranson seems to have angles maybe 1/2* to 1* steeper than the Treks, so 73.5*, maybe 74* +/-?

As much as I want the Ranson, I'm going to pass as I have too many projects as is and don't want to merely accumulate bikes and parts without doing anything with them. Great, 531 frame though with cool lugs. People are often searching for quality frames with beat up paint they won't mind modding and brazing, this is just the ticket!
