1976 Austro Daimler Vent Noir

1976 Austro Daimler Vent Noir with first generation Dura Ace. 25" size. Mostly original. Rims are worn, so I will include a brand new set of Fiamme gold rims for the new owner. I have a nice set of Mavic clinchers with Campagnolo high flange hubs as well that I would sell separately. Frame has a small dent on underside of chain stay (see photo). I bought it that way and have ridden it for the last 6+ years. Wonderful bike. Surprisingly light. I also have a matching longer stem that I will provide. I've got too many bikes and am trying to thin the herd. Bike is located in Atlanta area. Does not include saddle. Asking $450.

I'm glad this bike is too large. This is a bike worth owning. GLWS.

Thanks - it's a really cool bike. I'm amazed how light it is as well. Probably my lightest bike.

------

Seem to recall a VN from right around this time which came in a black chrome finish.

Does anyone else remember this?

...or perhaps yet another marble hath rolled out me ear...

All I can offer is that if this bike rides like my similarly sized AD Olympian (531 f+f), then it is a very fine handling machine.

In 1981, the VN and Olympian shared the same frameset. A few years ago I sold all my vintage bikes except 1, kept the AD.

As far as I can tell, there are three varieties of VN finish. This cool and maybe rarer matte black, a dark black chromo velato like I have, and a lighter "smokey" chromo velato.

Great bike. This matte finish version is featured as an "iconic bike" in the Cyclepedia book:
