FS / WTT Gitane Professional Tour De France - Early 1970s

Hi!

I have an early 1970s (several bikeforums members suggest 1971) Gitane Professional Tour de France Frameset. It has Reynolds 531 tubing and Reynolds fork with a Nervex Pro crown. It also has a Stronglight headset and Stronglight 93 crank. Also included in sale is a Mafac Racer rear center-pull brake with pads.

The paint has lots of patina and surface scratches. However, it is rust-free, straight, there are no dents or dings, and the chrome is in great condition! Serial # is pictured on the dropout, it looks like 02221. Sorry about it being dirty, I just quickly cleaned it with a mild biodegradable cleaner, but it can definitely use some more elbow grease to get the job done.

Size:
Seat-tube is 23 CtoC
Top-tube is 23 CtoC

$75 local pickup, willing to ship via bikeflights at cost to buyer. Also willing to trade for a comparably valued frame or parts

Thanks!

Great deal! If I didn't need to sell a bike I'd have jumped on that one.

Thank you for removing this temptation bikemig! I love mine and was tempted to buy this one, its twin. 60 cm TdF of this era is a magic bike for reasons I cannot explain. Enjoy!

I hear you. There is something funky cool about old French bikes. I started this thread in '017 and then started to look for French bikes like this Gitane,

What's so special about French bikes?

If I'm lucky that inner chain ring on the stronglight 93 is a 42 and not a 45. But I'll bet that crank is threaded for French pedals and I'll have to buy a tap. What's a new bike if you don't have to buy new tools to get it going, ?

While Peugeot cling to the 45T inner ring, Gitanes usually ran 52/42T. And the odds are good those cranks have already been re-tapped to 9/16 x 20. The Stronglight P3 headset is a very durable item and I think you are in for a delightful ride when youre finished. This size TdF from this period eclipses all the PX-10s I have ever ridden. There is just something indescribably right about them. Youll see.
