WTB: seat post binder bolt for Gitane
Hi. I am looking for a seat post bolt for early 1970s Gitane. My understanding is the Gitane and Peugeots of the early 1970s used an odd seat post bolt and nut for clamping the seat cluster. Attached please see the Gitane, without the bolt and a Peugeot with the nut/bolt.I am looking for a seat post nut/bolt for the Gitane. Or some other solutions for clamping the seat post. (Photo 1 & 2 show the seat cluster of the Gitane, Photo 3 is a Peugeot which I believe has a similar nut/bolt which would work on the Gitane)Or, maybe, there is a better solution.Thanks. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d352c488f8.jpg

Would the TA seat binder with integrated cable hanger work? These can be found for $20-30 on eBay.

That's a pretty standard eared lug design, and a standard keyed seat binder bolt should work fine.

I just discovered yellowjersey has some nice Gripfast bolts with a "G" badge on them; perfect for a Gitane

Here are two types, as I understood it; one with the G badge and one without. The "G" is for Gripfast, but it could easily be for Gitane too. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b8ef40afff.jpg |
Thank you!!

Looks like the famed frame builder Merz makes some unusual seatpost binders, according to his FB page. (I wonder if he roams this forum)

Did you happen to receive the bolt yet? I ordered in early last week but it hasn’t arrived.

This is what I received. It appears to fit nicely on my Gitane.

The OEM binder was produced by ALGI. This company still exists but has not manufactured cycle fittings for many years. One mail-order source for ALGI binders (also employed on stems) is Mel Pinto Imports. --- You may discover that the threads and nut size on the Gripfast binder are Whitworth dimension. The firm was a supplier for Raleigh binders and wedgebolts. ----- |
Ugh. I replaced the Whitworth binder bolts on my Raleigh and Viscount. Period correctness be damned.
