1988 Bottecchia Team Record, SLX, 57cm SOLD

For sale is this awesome 1988 Bottecchia Team Record bike, which I believe was the highest-level frame they sold that year. Seat tube is 57cm CTC, top tube is 56cm CTC. Columbus SLX tubing with internal top tube brake cable. Stand over height is 32.5 inches. I am the second owner of the frame, bought it through the large auction site.

Components are as follows: Shimano compact crankset with 50/34 rings. Shifters are Shimano (Exage?) 7 speed down tube units and they interface perfectly with the Dura Ace 7700 front and rear derailleurs. Brake levers are Tektro R200L, calipers are Dura Ace 7700. Wheels are Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Dura Ace 7400 freewheel style hubs with nearly new Vittoria Rubino Pro II tires in size 25 (wheels were changed after these pictures were taken but look very much the same). Freewheel is a Sachs 12-28 7 speed, headset is a late 80ís Campagnolo Record. Saddle is a red Turbo mounted to a Shimano 6400 series aero seat post. Nitto Noodle bars; am pretty sure thatís a Cinelli stem.
Cable housing is NOS period correct Dura Ace with new Shimano stainless drawn shift and brake cables. No pedals (unless I happen to have a set of road pedals that work with your shoes).

Bike rides beautifully and presents well. As you can see from the photos, everything is in really great condition. Have ridden his in several events, including the Tour de Palm Springs, where I completed the 103-mile-long route in 5:50.

Would prefer to sell this as a complete bike for $900 but would consider selling the frame fork and headset, seat post binder bolt and rear dropout screws for $600. SOLD!!

Note that price does not include shipping, but I will pack and ship it myself and use Ship Bikes as they are the least expensive right now. No worries on the shipping, Iíve never had one damaged.

Questions? Just ask.

If that were a size larger I would be considering the comforts of the dog house.

GLWS

Lovely bike.

Beautiful machine for a bargain IMO. Another big bonus is that its Eroica California 2020 ready, just add your classic pedals, deserves campy.

In 1988, I paid $950 for a similar Bottecchia "Professional" frameset in Columbus SLX that was brand new, mine was in black and white. So $600, in 2019 dollars, for a frameset that's is still essentially new, really is a steal.

Funny you should mention Campagnolo for this frame. Obviously, with a name like 'Team Record', that's what it came with. When I got it, it had mostly CdA on it (remember, these were the dark days of 1988, Campy-wise). Worst shifting, most inconsistent, poorest braking (Deltas!) collection of components I've ever encountered. Hence the DA stuff, with which I attempted to honor the late 80's seven speed aura with bits that actually worked well together.

Love me some early 80's Campagnolo Super Record (check out the Colnago for sale) but later 80's Campagnolo stuff...not so much.
