Motobecane Grand Jubilé - 61cm - $275
Selling a Motobecane Grand Jubilé which is, I think, in pretty nice shape. Asking $275 net to me. Shipping at your cost. Note that you should email skip.montanaro@gmail.com if you're interested. You'll likely get a more timely response.
I picked the bike up at the local Play It Again Sports (which seems weird to me, but such is life). Given its color and Huret derailleurs (see below), I believe it is a 1975 or early 1976 model. If I wasn't trying to thin the herd and didn't already have a couple touring bikes I like just fine, I'd keep it. The seat tube measures 61cm ctc. The top tube is 58cm ctc. Standover height is 90cm. The main triangle is Reynolds 531. I believe the fork is not. The rear dropouts are Huret. Front fork ends are something else. Not sure about the composition of the rear triangle. I've ridden it a few times since the clean-up. Seems to ride fine to me.
The frame is in excellent condition for a bike of its age. There is some discoloration of the paint on the left-hand seatstay and a couple scratches on the top tube, but no dings or dents as far as I can tell. The Reynolds decal is of the usual dissolving type, but the Moto decals look to be in good shape. The original Motobecane bar wrap is intact and in excellent condition. I wouldn't remove it. If you don't like it, I recommend just wrapping your desired tape over it or replacing the entire cockpit as a unit. Someone will probably want it. I think it's pretty unusual to see this stuff nowadays.

I went through it pretty completely and did the following:
- Installed new TA chainrings (46/32) and a used SunTour freewheel. It came to me with a half-step setup up front (50/47) and a corncob f/w out back (14-18), resulting in what was little more than a single-speed ("low" gear of 72 inches, high of 99). I will include the old TA chainrings. Not sure I still have the freewheel it came with. I don't believe the TA crank was original to the bike (catalogs suggest that Stronglight 49D was spec'd).
- Replaced the Huret derailleurs with SunTour V-GT Luxe (rear) and Vx (front). They offered better shifting, and Jubilee front derailleur clamp was broken.
- Installed new Panaracer Pasela 27x1-1/4" tires with Schwalbe tubes.
- Replaced the ratty Brooks Pro saddle with a Velo Orange. I applied a patch to the underside of the Brooks. It has yet to be tested though. I will include both saddles with the bike.
- Installed new Cane Creek brake hoods.
- Swapped in some better (but still used) brake pads - fronts seem fine, rears are just so-so. If I was to keep the bike, I'd buy some Kool-Stop pads.
- Installed new Shimano lined brake cable housing and new brake and shift cables.
- Swapped in some new pedals which spin much better than the originals (same brand/model, came off another Motobecane, Atom 440 I believe).
- Repacked all bearings (headset, bottom bracket, hubs).

This bike is beautiful and it has very useful gearing. Thankfully it's not my size. I have a '74 Moto Grand Record. VIntage Motobecanes are terrific bikes.
