Long Shot WTB: Araya RM25 wheel

Doinked my rear wheel on the old MTB and now realize nobody has these after 30+ years! Shocking! LBS says it's toast.
Need a Araya RM25, 36 spoke Rear QR wheel with freewheel. Original has a Maillard hub for 126mm dropout spacing. Anyone sitting on one of these that isn't a lost cause? Thanks in advance!

All those early Araya mtn rims were such great value. They seemed to last forever until the brake surface finally wears thin enough to cause a calamity.
There's still lots out there, wasting away. Chances are good one will pop up here, or there. Luck.

Look locally for a bike with good rims. Put them on your current bike. Bet that will be cheaper than shipping a wheel or even a rim.

Ideally I'll keep it original, although I have been following your advice and looking on CL, FB and Letgo for just that. I wonder which bikes of that time would've used these same wheels.

Post a picture of the actual rim. Often, the label will be gone, so I may well have the wheel you are seeking but not know it. Also the era of the bike you are matching.

Realize that some of the early Araya MTB wheels have really gone UP in value as the BMX crowd is seeking them. Any of the 2Day 6 x 1.75 Arayas with dimpled rims are desirable! Also, many had steel spokes, so you are going to see rusty spokes on them.

Why do you need the freewheel?

I suppose I don't really. Was hoping to avoid lacing a new rim to the existing hub (= Long Shot). I have another 26" rim with freewheel, but it is significantly narrower that the RM25.

In other news I have "massaged" the bent rim (IOW whacked it on the corner of my workbench) and adjusted the spokes so that it's usable with a slight wiggle, but far from perfect.

The PicClick website has quite a number of ads up for the Araya 20 and 25 rims and wheelsets. Might check those out.

That looks like a Raleigh Technium Chill? I have the same bike, in the same color, with the same rims. Unfortunately, not for sale at the moment. Good luck!

Yup, 88 Chill. I'm really enjoying the ride for casual use!

Golly, I wonder what brand of tires are on that bike....

KIDDING, looking sharp. Never thought of putting those "mini-skirt" fenders on an MTB.

Sadly I have donated a lot of wheels with the rims you are seeking, as I can't keep everything. But they are commonly out there.

I have an RM25 with a Sturmey Archer 3spd laced. Could sell the wheel or the rim.
