WTB - 1981 road bike or frame that is 64-65cm or 25-25.5"

I had hoped I would have something in hand by now to work on this winter, but what I am searching for is so specific, Ive come up empty so far.

I am looking for a quality frame or bike. Thats general, but I am brand and region agnostic on this. US, Italian, English, Japan- Im good with any of it.
It would be great if the paint is in really good condition, but I am not opposed to something needing to be redone if its a really cool option.

As for $, well it depends on specifics. I for sure dont want to spend $800 on just a frame, but its not like I am only looking to spend $60.

Hopefully I kept the specifics general since the year and sizing are so specific. Anyone have something nice they dont use and are looking to move?

What top tube length do you like? I have an '81 Tommasini that's maybe smaller than you'd like. 59 cm top tube.

I have a really nice 63 (maybe too small) Bottecchia, "Bright" Red, Chrome socks no dents, damage, Columbus SL.....let me know if you are interested, I can more send pics.
Also a Tall (65?), complete, and "perfect" Cannondale Black Lightning..replacement seat. I need to dig it out if interested to photo it.

Nice paint and good chrome...
Best, Ben

This one too big? Or maybe too low-end?

59 could work, assuming frame angles. I have a couple road bikes with 59 level top tubes.
can you post up some details?

These two keep popping up in my online searches. I'm about a foot too short or they'd be in my garage!

How much of a requirement is the bike being a 1981 model year?

Birth year. Thought it'd be cool to have a quality frame as old as me. So pretty key to this.
While I dont have much use other frames right now, I'm not saying I would outright reject something cool that could be a future project...

Man, a nice Trek 759 or 959 would pretty pretty sweet from that year. 63.7cm CTC = 65cm CTT.

I have a bike that is the right size (63 cm) and in great shape cosmetically. But the price is all wrong since you don't want to spend less than $60 and no doubt its lower quality than you want. I'm pretty sure it's a 1980 model so it's a year older than you are. It's a 63 cm Peugeot UO 9. You can have the frame/fork/HS if you want.

This frame will make a great bike to tool around town and as a lock up bike. It's comfy with a long wheelbase, slack angles, and it takes pretty big tires if especially if you run 700c wheels on it. My first good bike was a UO 10 (basically the same frame as this UO 9 with a little nicer parts) and I currently have and ride a UE 8 (an older version of this bike that came stock with lights, fenders, rack). These are really nice riding bikes if you can get over the price (free) and the fact that it's a hi tensile steel frame. The ride quality is excellent.

This is a link to the catalog.

Hi, It's about 23-1/4 center to center or 59.25?
The Black Lightning is absolutely perfect...let me know if you would like pics of it.
Hope you find what you want.

put Seattle CL on your routine search.
We seem to get a lot of large vintage bikes and people from Bellingham to Olympia post here.
They usually ask big city prices.

The Merckx has been listed a long time, with price reductions.

Without checking for the year here's 2 from a quick search of 'Vintage' on
seattle bicycles - craigslist

edit: not listed under vintage.

I have 25" Voyager 11.8 in chrome, that is probably a 1981. It appears to be made by Kuwahara, since the serial number is almost exactly the same as the one in this thread - 81(?) Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 - although the head badge is stamped 0148.

It's in good shape and I think I have most of the original parts (except the wheels) but it's just a frame/fork/headset/brake calipers/BB at the moment. LMK if you're interested and get pics to you.

Not sure on year would have to contact seller (checkout the vintage Trek site for serial number decoding), but this one is tall, I think from not being paneled on ST/HT that usually pointed to 79-81 or so for Treks? But Im probably wrong
