I have mostly used this forum to ogle others bikes and find leads on parts and pieces form my builds. I am try to find good homes for some of my bikes and frames that it has become clear I wont get to building into bikes for years to come. These have also been posted on thepaceline.net forums in case the look familiar. Please let me know if I have posted improperly.

Here are some handsome bikes from the bygone era of skinny tires. They have all been properly maintained, they all ride well, and they all have character in spades. These were never meant to be period-correct, garage queens. Parts choice was a matter of what I thought looked cool and liked riding. I will be sad to see them go, but I’d be happy to keep them, too. They are priced accordingly, and low-ball offers might go ignored. Volume discounts are available, of course. Please help them find a good home.

1980’s Ohtaki Wakasa

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you much about the origins of this one. Ohtaki is a custom NJS-certified builder in Tokyo, and Wakasa was once a province in Japan, so this frame might have been built for a regional team. Anyhow, I rode this bike 50 miles once, and boy did I feel it for a week. At least it was fast. The paint job still looks great, but there’s some minor touch-up if you really look. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Highlights include the ITM Dual cockpit, Edco hubs with bladed spokes, and the sweet Stronglight Aero Delta chainring. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden.

1980’s Mino Denti Liberty

Mino Denti may not be as well known as other Italian artisanal framemakers, but his bikes are exquisite. This frame has been frame-saved and was completely covered in automotive protective film! There is some tire rub on the left chainstay; otherwise, it looks great. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Highlights include the Suntour Superbe Pro drivetrain and the beautiful fishnet paint job. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden.

It’s rare that you see a negative angle top-tube, let alone Columbus Air tubing. Not many bikes look this fast standing still! I’d love to see how the skinny, teardrop-shaped tubes perform in a wind tunnel. This frame was sent to Marinoni not so long ago for a repaint in Samurai Green. It hasn’t seen many miles since and looks practically new.
Highlights include the Dura-Ace AX groupset and the polished Spécialités TA crankset with aero bolts and big chainrings. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden.

2007 Ritchey Break-Away

This is a one-owner Break-Away that has been ridden up, down, and around Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. This frameset has been frame-saved and was completely covered in automotive protective film! There is a small paint chip where the triangles join on the seat-tube, but other than that, the frame is in amazing shape. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Plenty of parts upgrades were made, too. Highlights include the Campagnolo Record carbon shifters and Ritchey WCS fork. This bike is a pleasure to ride: light, quick, and predictable. Included with the bike is the travel case which I never used. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden.

2007 Kona King Zing

If you’re looking for a light, responsive bike, then this might be for you. It weighs a mere 15 lbs including pedals and it’s no size Medium either! Kona used a Dedacciai Scuro HCR carbon frameset, and this one is practically new old stock. I don’t think this King Zing has even been ridden twenty miles since it was built up. I can’t find any flaws. Highlights include the 10-speed Campagnolo Record groupset, Shamal wheelset, and the crazy Zeus Zarpa stem. I believe Kona listed this as either a 60 or 61cm. The saddle and pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden!

1987 Eclipse Carbon 7

Yes, there actually were carbon bikes in the ‘80s. The Eclipse Carbon 7 was constructed of 7-layer carbon/kevlar tubes bonded to Vitus 979 duraluminum lugs. It was built in France by TVT. The bike was also sold as the Look Carbon which Greg Lemond rode to victory in the 1990 Tour de France. It’s a comfortable bike to ride and less whippy than a Vitus 979. This one was built up with a cool mix of parts. Highlights include Dura-Ace brakes, derailleurs, and crankset; Modolo composite shifters and brake levers; and Nuke Proof carbon hubs. It remains in wonderful condition with no serious signs of wear or deterioration. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. The pedals are not included but are available upon request. You can choose whether you want the red or the white saddle. It’s clean and begging to be ridden!

1980’s Zullo SL

Allan Wanta did a great job repainting this old Zullo that had seen better days. It was built up with an odd assortment of parts that manage to work very nicely together. The ride and handling are typically Italian. It hasn’t done many miles since it was refinished, and I honestly cannot find a blemish! Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Highlights include the Mavic derailleurs and carbon brakes. The saddle and pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden.

1980’s MBK Super Record HPF

This MBK is built in the British time-trial tradition with a single, large chainring. There are plenty of French design quirks: a rear brake cable channel under the top-tube, dropped seat-stays, and a nested seat-post binder bolt. The frame is also constructed using "Inexternal Brazing", a process whereby the tubes are brazed both internally and externally for a cleaner, more rigid join. Regardless, the bike definitely scoots and makes a good gauge of fitness. If your thighs start quivering, then it’s back to the trainer! This frameset has been frame-saved. The clearcoat was a little soft when it came into my possession, so it was completely covered in automotive protective film. It looks great with the shark-belly paint job. Highlights include the polished Stronglight Speedlight crankset and Phil Wood bottom-bracket. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. The saddle and pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden!

So much color! It’s like walking into a Benetton store in the ‘80s. While the Megachrome won’t be the lightest steel bike out there, it is most certainly an all-day comfortable ride. 1990’s Fondriest Reverso

In a world of murdered-out carbon bikes, this Fondriest will stand out like a Ferrari at a muscle-car meet-up. Light, fast, and comfortable. This is easily one of the nicest aluminum frames I’ve ridden. This bike looks new with the exception of a small paint imperfection behind the headtube. It’s covered in matching orange vinyl and is hardly noticeable. The frame is stamped “61,” but it measures smaller than that. The Miche Supertype crankset is a work of machined art. SOLD 1980’s Battaglin World Champion TT SOLD

Radical. This frame is very similar to the time-trial bike that Stephen Roche rode to the 1987 Triple Crown. It may look like a medieval torture device, but it actually is quite rideable. More importantly, it feels really, really fast. The parts aren’t necessarily period correct because in the real world you have to brake sometimes. The front wheel is a 650. This frameset has been stripped down to the nickel-plating and looks stunning in the sunlight. I won’t attempt to take measurements. The bottom bracket is stamped “61,” but, suffice it to say, it should work for anyone who rides larger than a 58. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden!

1980’s F.Moser Classe

I bought this frameset from someone in Belgium who must have used it as his rain bike. After some frame-saving and touch-up, this frameset was completely covered in automotive protective film! It has made a great trainer. There is something special about the ride of old F.Moser bikes. The Shimano Santé groupset is pure retro 80’s goodness. The crankset is a well-used Dura-Ace 7700 that was powder-coated white to match the rest of the group. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. 1980’s F.Moser Corsa

This build was my attempt at a stripped-down cafe racer. It’s a lot of fun to ride, and not just for short distances either. I once rode it 130 miles across the rolling hills of Western Iowa. It was 1x before such groupsets became readily available. The simplicity is nice, and, honestly, I didn’t miss the extra gears. The Spécialités TA crankset with aero bolts is lovely to look at. The DayGlo pink paint job doesn’t photograph well, but it looks pretty sharp in person. The condition is very good with less wear than expected for a bike its age. Of course, it’s still a used bike and not perfect. Pedals are not included but are available upon request. It’s clean and begging to be ridden!

1980’s Casati Monza Gold-Line R

This was the top-of-the-line model for Casati in the ’80s. It features Columbus tubing and a lovely sherbert orange paint job with plenty of pantographs and stylistic flourishes. Both the brake and shifter cables are routed internally for a super clean look. Sadly, I never got around to building this. Aside from a few paint chips here and there, I’d swear this frameset was new-old-stock. The Casati-branded downtube shifters are included. I also have a lovely set of Mavic citron rims for sale that go perfectly with this color. It’s ready to be built and ridden!

1990’s CBT Italia Dream

CBT Italia has always made frames with stunning paint jobs. This one features Columbus SLX tubing, their trademark downtube cavity for a shortened wheelbase, and internal routing for the rear brake cable. The frameset is in excellent condition for its age with minimal paint wear. This frameset is so pretty, I know I’m going to regret not building it up. It’s ready to be built and ridden!

What a great collection of bikes for sale. I miss my old Denti TT bike. That Denti road bike is tempting, but unfortunately all slightly too big for me. Also diggin' the Wanta repainted Zullo. Makes me wonder what you have as keepers. GLWS!
