WTB or WTT: MTB parts to finish mid-90s project

I finally started working on this project to get ready for a fall trip next month. Goal is to convert it to either 1x10 / 1x11 or possibly even 2x8 / 2x9 / 2x10

To get there I'm hunting one or more of the following:
  • 26" wheelset, 100/135, rim brake, 8/9/10s ready (no 7s), freehub setup is ideal, bonus if 11s capable, bonus if pre-loaded w/10-spd cassette, bonus if mixed black/silver
  • Mid+ grade '90s / '00s era single / double square taper 10s-ready crankset or I'm open to non-square taper as long as compatible BB isn't impossible to find or you can part with BB (got it!)
  • OR ... I can also achieve my goal if you've got a nice 36H matched MTB-ready rim-brake hubset where the rear is 8/9/10s capable and there's modern cassettes available for it
  • OR ... Alternately, a complete FH-RM40-8 hu, or even a 8/9/10s freehub body that'll fit a Shimano RM40 hub would be my cheapest solution (freehub may be an experimental one)
  • I guess I'm hunting for 10s Deore or Alivio shift levers, either RH for 1x10 only, or maybe a pair for 2x9, 2x10 setup could be enticing
It sure seems like people just don't sell old 26er MTB parts anywhere. It's really a bummer, I've had a lot of bikes crossing my path lately, some nicer bikes that, with a little love, could be killer despite lacking that 'extra inch' clearance or w/e. Cue Hedwig.

Before you ask: Yes. I've looked at converting to 29er. Rear bridge limits me to 700x30 knobbed or 700x32 road tire unless I'm overlooking something. I actually intend to ride some terrain, minus crazy bombing.

I have a STOCKPILE of stuff I can trade but my Venmo account is stacked right now from a few recent bike sales as I'm clearing out a lot of stuff, Revolut also has extra funds, but I'm also cool w/old school payments too.

I seem to have accumulated a a few 26" wheelsets over the years. All good shape......Mavic Crossrides, Mavic Crosslands no skewers, WTB XCs , Shimano LX and maybe a few others. If any of those sound interesting I can work on pics.

I'm definitely interested. Skewers aren't hugely important to me, I've got a bin full. Flexibility and tire choice is important, and price is somewhat a factor. .I'd obviously prefer to give someone $30 shipped for an RM40-8 hub than spend in the triple digits for a full shipped wheelset, but I know beggars can't be choosers. I donated a frame from hazetguy and some spare 27" wheels at the co-op today, but not much doing there for 26" wheels other than steel-hubbed lunkers, I'm sort of at my last straws now..

Big thing for me is support for 26x2.3 and up to 10s. I was eyeballing a Mavic + LX wheelset earlier today but held off to see what may be available in some of my BF brethren's bins before throwing money at someone else.

No rush on pics. I've got about 5 weeks to get this done.

r0ckh0und disregard on the wheelset. Local BF'er helped me get there!

I guess I'm still interested in finding an 8s freehub, but it's not pivotal. If anyone reading this has any spare 8s freehubs or an orphan 8s Shimano alloy rear 36h mountain-capable hub, I'm interested!

I probably have some of that in my hoard of MTB stuff. Certainly have a set of 10spd deore shifters, maybe a set of 9spd XT. Have tons of 8spd hubs/freehubs, but they are all the older standard, I don't think that RM-40 hub uses the same freehub.

Also have 8/9/10spd thumb shifters if you prefer that over rapid fires. 8spd are Sunrace, 9/10 are microshift. All the shifters would be sets though, no single rears. For some reason I have a million orphan front shifters.
