FS: Pinarello Record Frame/Fork
For sale is an early 1980s Pinarello (Super?) Record Frame/Fork. Measures 53.5cm c-c on the seat post and 54cm c-c on the top tube. The Record is a Columbus SL frame. Fork has the SLX ridges inside the steerer. Pages below from the 85 catalog.
I bought this back in late 2019 from the second owner. He had repainted it in rattle can black that was peeling badly so I stripped it (poorly) down to the chrome. Looks to me like it was originally in Grewal colors, based on the paint flash inside the various tubes (blue at the seat, yellow at the bottom bracket, and red in the head tube) so it should be 1984 or later. The fork is unpainted so this might be the Super Record model (it's hard to know for sure since the frame was repainted) The chrome is pretty nice on the stays and fork, where its brightly polished, but not so nice anywhere else - the BB shell itself is a rough casting so the chrome isnt very pretty, and the main tubes show roughening/sanding, presumably to try to get the paint to adhere better (not sure if that's factory or the later paint job, but these were never known for good paint). There's still a little surface rust here and there, particularly on the edges of lugs and such, where I couldn't get in with foil and WD-40 to really clean them up. The only spot where the chrome isn't good is the underside of the seatstays where they meet the seat lug - there's some light corrosion there.that could be cleaned up if you can get in there better. I had done an initial paint stripping and some chrome cleanup when I first got the bike, but after my year long fight with the stem (see the next sentence), my heart was no longer in this project;.
When I got it, the stem was well stuck in the fork. I finally had to cut it off and burn the stem out using lye. The steerer threads were in bad shape so I ended up buying an English die and recutting them. The headset has the usual bad fork race, and I believe the threaded top race is English and the top nut Italian (or maybe the other way around). The fork has something sliding/rattling inside one of the legs (probably something from the brazing process) - that's actually not so unusual for these - I have another that also does this, and you'll find others describing the same thing both here and elsewhere on-line.
I'd much rather sell it local but can ship (at your cost) if needed. Looking for $350 for it - feel free to make an offer..

I forgot to show a photo of the tops of the chain stay lugs, which have the panotgraphs that are unique to the Record.
