That’s a really nice bike. Too big for me, otherwise I’d be seriously tempted. GLWS.

Not everyday you see a 531c frame with braze on for rear AND front racks, seat tube is a little high for me, though I am still tempted.

Any idea how fat one could go with the tires?

On the bike there are now 700C x 20.
I have a clearance of about 20 mm in front (between the tire and fork) and about 18 mm I the back.
If you google 1984 Claud Butler catalog you'll see the bike original with fenders

Checks so many boxes I'm so tempted, but alas, in doing my year-end accounting I choked on how much $$ I spent on bicycle stuff in 2021. Gotta lay off for a while (& I still have to get wheels and some other stuff for my PX-10.....).

Well, no problem.
By the way, I have a '78 PX-10, too large for you. Repaint, so I might part it out.
PM me, if you think you need any parts.

It's got the plain lugs and the DR has 4-72 stamped on the cage, so probably a late '72 or early '73 I think.

Great looking bike, but so similar to my 1982 Dalesman that I can't justify making an offer. To anyone else who may be considering, this is a pretty sweet bike.

Worth noting that this 86mm BCD crank can take much smaller rings than the 52/36 shown. You could make a nice "sub-compact" with it!

Just get to find the smallest ring of 28t. But yes, these make fine super compact cranks. I use one on my wife’s bike: 48/28. It was 45/28 until I stole the 45 for a half-step setup…
