I'm helping Michael Barrett (Barrettscv) sell his 1972 chrome Schwinn Paramount (s/n C72159) which happens to be in my basement. The frame and components are in excellent condition. I did not see any chrome pitting. Michael checked with Waterford on the original build. As I understand it, the bar end shifters and Campy brake calipers were spec'd as part of the original build from the factory. Component details:

• 24.5" seat tube (center-to-top), 23" top tube (center-to-center)
• Record high flange hubs with flat skewers laced to Super Champion tubular rims
• Vittoria Corsa G+ 28mm tubulars (look new to me)
• Campagnolo Record brake calipers
• Campagnolo bar end shifters
• Campagnolo NR brake levers (some rash)
• Campagnolo 27.2 NR seatpost
• Brooks Pro saddle
• Campagnolo Patent 71 Nuovo Record rear derailleur
• Campagnolo Record flat cage front derailleur
• Campagnolo Nuovo Record Strada crankset, 170mm arms, no date marking
• Campagnolo Superleggera pedals with AFA toe clips and Christophe straps (look new to me)
• Cinelli 1A stem — 120mm extension, later style logo
• Cinelli Giro d'Italia handlebars — 40cm wide, later style logo — New white Newbaum's tape included
• White Silca Impero pump with Campagnolo chuck

Consider the price of a new Waterford frame, not even built up, and one can see the value of this impressive piece of Schwinn history.

Question: Does a chrome '72 P-13 ride differently and better than a painted '71 P-13? I need to know in order to convince Mrs. PB I need to make such an expenditure.

probably not , BUT… it IS a chromie and almost as fast as a red one! These don’t come along very often in this kind of shape. If I had it in my budget (certainly don’t) it would already be sold, to me. The price is fair IMHO.
I am so proud of myself. This is the second bike that has been on BF for sale and I have resisted. The other was that Masi.

Has this theory been tested yet? I suggest PB purchases the chrome bike and then tests it back to back to back with the painted bike a la Bicycle Quarterly and he keeps the fastest bike.

In the name of science, you should buy this bike, @pastorbobnlnh. (Plus, it would look fantastic at Cino!)

I'm going to :bump: this. Michael is willing to entertain offers (I'm thinking $1200 range), but is pretty adamant that he doesn't want to sell it to someone who will just flip it. So, if you're looking for a very nice chrome Schwinn Paramount to add to your stable, check it out...

Yes. It's newer, it's betterer. It's got 1/10th of a degree difference in the crankshaft axleway which should result in a largely pleasurable ride

it may be too small for YOU , but at 24.5” I think it is too big for DD . He must be talking himself out of it(ha ha). It is close enough to my size but my budget doesn’t support it. A chrome Paramount …my size…hmmmm…RESIST-RESIST!

Such discipline, very admirable! I am pretty much at my limit as well. I always told myself that when I have so many bikes that I can’t ride them all in rotation AND maintain them, I need to reevaluate. I certainly am not a curator, more rider and moderate collector/ wrencher .
