FS: 1999 Schwinn Peloton 58cm (Ultegra/Dura Ace)

Hello folks,

I am re-advertising this after some slight updates to the cockpit and some new photos (attached below). Please note that it currently has the fresh blue bar tape installed as shown below. However, for details of condition please refer to the Flickr album previously posted with a slightly different configuration:

1999 Schwinn Peloton for sale (May 2022) | Flickr

I purchased this 1999 Schwinn Pelotonin December 2020 and have ridden it about 600 miles since I did some tasteful modifications to the cockpit with the addition of a 90mm Soma Sutro stem and 42cm Forte Ergo handlebars as well as a non-descript seat post and Selle Italia Flite Trans Am saddle. Otherwise the components are all original including a full Ultegra 6500 9-speed group set with the exception of a Dura Ace 7700 rear derailleur, and Mavic XP21 rims. The frame has Reynolds 853 butted main tubes and an aluminum straight blade fork. There are some paint chips on the frame, primarily along the top tube, the left-hand shifter has been scuffed up a bit in the past, and the rear rim's decal is lifting and wrinkled a bit. Overall, the bicycle is in great cosmetic condition and perfect mechanical order - the shifting is very smooth and accurate, the front derailleur trims nicely, and the brakes inspire confidence. All of the bearings feel freshly lubricated and the wheels spin true and quietly. I cannot really tell how much life is left in the 700x23c Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick tires because they are slicks, but I see no signs of uneven wear along the surface and have not suffered any punctures to date.

The geometry is 58cm center-to-center and 61cm center-to-top on the seat tube, and 58.5cm center-to-center on the top tube. According to the Schwinn catalog for 1999 (which I saw since my last advertisement) this would be the listed 58cm frame size, and not the 60cm as I assumed. The wheelbase is exactly 100cm and the standover height is 83cm. The crank arms are 175mm and the chainrings are 53-39.

I am looking to get $550 + actual shipping for the bicycle (including the L'Eroica bottles and cages shown in the Flickr photos). I will ship it via Bikeflights. If you have any questions please ask! Thank you.

-Gregory

(p.s. In the configuration shown below the reach from pedals to saddle is ~96cm. I am long legged with a 34" inseam and arms and torso that are all a couple inches short for my height of 6'1" and this was a comfortable setup for me.)

Bumping this one after a time away from the forum, as it's still for sale! I think the price of $550 + shipping is pretty reasonable... I paid about the same for the bike and then did the cockpit and saddle upgrades. Cheers!

That is a great price for a 853 framed bike that is a great ride. I had essentially the same 1999 Circuit on on smooth pavement it was a rocket!

GLWS!

Looks like a nice ride and good deal.
If I was near Visalia, CA then would consider.
Love the colors and the eroica bottles and cages are a great bonus

I understand everyone has their own preferences in saddles so I would like to state that if someone does not want the Selle Italia flite saddle, I can lower the price to $500 + shipping. Cheers!

Interesting. I've come across another chart that I was sure had the seat tube measured center-to-center. This one has a ~58cm top tube but the 58cm is c-c on the seat tube - to the top of the clamp is about 61cm.

The bicycle is in storage so I will have to go confirm the top tube length. Maybe I was a cm short in my measurements/memory. It could be the size 60 frame, but to the top of the tube it'd still be 61! The top tube is definitely not 60.5cm.

That is out of the 1999 catalog. I kept a copy of the file when I had my great riding Circuit which was essentially the same frame.

Here's the page for the Peloton specifically

https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCa...0/1999_50.html

I still can't believe this hasn't sold. These are great bikes and if it was my size I would have snapped it right up.

My fav saddle is the SSM rolls and the Selle Italia flite is just as nice and maybe even more comfy.
Id buy the saddle if lucky bike buyer opts out.

jamesdak I carefully measured the frame today and the measurements just don't line up with the spec given on that chart. The seat tube is either 60cm center-to-top measured to just below the seat post clamp, or 61cm to the very top. The top tube is exactly 58.5cm center-to-center.

I just had this out yesterday morning staring at it thinking "why am I selling it, and particularly so inexpensively?" It's such a great bike. Alas, I really need to clear out a few more and also get a couple thousand more saved before a seminar I'm taking in July. This has got to go!

Once again, the price is $550 as shown or $500 without the saddle (plus actual shipping via Bikeflights). Cheers!
