A bit of curiosity

Hi,
My first good bike was one of these. Same color scheme with a few component differences. I bought mine new in late 1972 and was told it was “last year’s model”. So, it could possibly be a ‘71. Mine came with a Stronglight 93 crankset & Normandy one piece alloy hubs. Both the stem & bars were marked GB.
Could these differences be a result of the bike boom parts shortages?
Cheers,
Van

This is a terrific color.
Be a solid “gravel” bike. just add big tires. A 6 cog block is so close to fitting as is.

You are spot on with the shortage thought. I have been looking at these for a couple of years (I need a fork) and the components vary a bit. There are no catalogs that I have seen for the 70-72's. This matches most of the ones I have seen but have also seen a few with Stronglight cranks. I have threatened to buy this but it is too short, I want the fork but I don't think I could separate it from the rest. This has the thick Zues drop outs, some have the thinner stamped ones. I can't remember which is which but one is Competicion and one is Grand Sport.
James you are killing me. I was wondering if you still had this.

Congrats on the sale. Would not have thought it to bring that price in this market. It appears the one-and-done lilac year might command a premium. There’s another one on eBay listed at $600.
