I'm pretty sure these came stock on early 80s Mongoose ATBs. Also stock on Ross Force One......which I believe was Ross's first ATB offering

It's like a GRX 46/30 without having to sacrifice the 50T cog or chain-line. Way ahead of its time (except for the square taper).
