Trade Mafac Racer for Dural Forge

I am in need of a Mafac Dural Forge caliper. Doesn't need to be perfect. If you have one, contact me and we can exchange photos and info.

Found what I needed.

Hey Lynn, We have bins of Mavics that no one cares about at the bike co-op I volunteer at.

Can you post a pic of what you are looking for?

Robert

If there truly are bins of Dural Forge brakes, I could use 2 sets. One would need to be the uncommon set with a vertical rear though. Of course, give the OP first shot.

I would not know because I do not know what I'm looking for.

Kids these days all have cantilevered brakes.

One kid was asking why campy didn't make center pull since everybody knows center pull is better.

SCIENCE he said.

Anyway, headed there with another van-full of parts from another LBS calling it quits.

Why the Dural Forge specificity- is it a 'period-correct' thing? (I'm just curious....)

Dural Forge has the brass bushings. Racer just has plastique. Some folks say the Dural Forge is better quality as a result, other people say they seize up easier. Mostly people say the Dural Forge is better though. Jan Heinie offers a kit with replacement bushings if you want to upgrade.

I don't know how much grime you'd have to ride through before one seized up, though, and lubing the pivots is easy enough.

I have a pair of Dural Forge, but the way I see it, trading for Racers isn't a very good trade.

Aha. Worth a close look, though. I've got a set of dural forge that came with a recent PX-10 basket-case and they've got the red plastic bushings....

To answer a few questions.

It is sort of a period correct thing. More so I have one and need another.

The bronze bushing thing is irrelevant in this case. I will be rebuilding them anyway using a kit from Amir Aviztur. I have Dural Forge calipers with both bronze and plastic that I have not rebuilt.

Photo below is shamelessly ripped off VeloBase, but it is what I need.

Photo below is what I have for trade. I would expect whatever I get back to be the same but Dural Forge. That is no mounting bolt or pad hardware. This is not rebuilt.

Are you in need of one of these? This mount is the only thing different between the vertical and standard horizontal brakes. I have an extra one if you need it.

Thanks for asking.
