87 Schwinn Voyageur- complete, needs nothing. Sweanky!
1987 Schwinn Voyageur Bicycle
Really nice 23” 87 Voyageur. $400 plus shipping, local DC/NoVA pickup welcome. Complete and ready to ride, needs nothing. Bought this from a BF member in Berkeley and shipped it home; it had been used very little by the original owner and I’ve put less than 1000 bike path miles on it. Converted to Tektro caliper brakes (it really stops now!) but also comes with the cantilever bits if you prefer them.
All consumable items replaced- chain, cables, housing, Pasela’s, etc., and all bearings serviced.
The component group is Shimano Deore 6 speed, triple crankset, freewheel, indexed downtube shifters. Original 27” wheelset with 40 spoke rear. Comes with new flat pedals.
As the photos show, everything is in really swell condition. Please feel free to ask any questions.

So, you consider the Tektros an improvement over the cantilevers? I was considering those as an upgrade over some center pulls, but didn’t realize they might be quite an upgrade. GLWS also on a nice looking bike.

Yes, I do. Have had several of these over the years and always felt that the stock canti’s- even if fitted with Kool Stop pads- were the weak point in the design.
Otherwise, this is a great touring/bikepath/all rounder bicycle. Rack and fender mounts, mid mounts on the fork. Nice long chainstays.
Tektro 539’s give plenty of room to insert/remove an inflated tire but IMHO give the rider better modulation and superior overall stopping power.
Only reason I’m selling is that there’s a bunch of overlap in this category in my collection and something’s gotta go.

Hunh. How bad? Cuz I took FS pics for it this morning and spent some time burnishing the ad content.
With the new 2023 Sachs, the 78 is definitely overlap.

If you need a touring bike and this is your size, you can’t go wrong with a Tenax Voyageur. Most folks have been successful converting to 700c using cantilevers brakes if that is causing you doubt. And, there is a long thread filled with enablers and advisors who can talk you through any changes you are thinking about. What are you waiting for? Buy it!

Is the British racing green the same year as that one?

Thank you. I have a mini-frame in racing green I believe. Was curious.

I went and checked the catalog. Schwinn calls it "British Green" in the 1985 catalog and "British Pine" in the 1986 catalog. So, I was partially right. And, to bring it back to the excellent example for sale here, the 1987 is "Imperial Rose".

My copy of that bike carried me and my camping gear 240 miles on the Erie Canal Trail this June (trail plus detours and side trips). A tough, reliable and comfortable machine. I’m glad to have it.

Nevermind that they were built in factories 6000 miles apart; they both have that really nice late-'80s high-end Schwinnn feel to them.

Very nice bike at a good price. Nice color. Too tall for someone who would otherwise be loosing sleep trying to figure out how to fit another bike into someone's space, thankfully. GLWS.
