Those look beautiful. I would go for them if they were indexed. I still might go for them, IDK.

So, two left shifters for front derailleurs.

True that, but shifters can be mounted left and right for front and rear derailleurs, with Shimano's nice light friction action. They are not limited to only front derailleur use.

This is a good idea that never occurred to me. The Shimano left bar-end has a nice feel with its fine ratchet and the bend in the lever adds a nice touch lacking in straight levers. The extra length makes these a tad easier on the fingers when combined with a derailleur with a strong return spring, and the lack of indexing makes them compatible with any combinations of derailleur and cluster. The length is better for bar-end use than the Silvers, which are repurposed downtube shifters. The indexed Shimano right shifters do have a friction mode, but the ones I have like to self-shift back to indexed mode for some reason. I like it, and am tempted.
