Replacement cartridge bearings for 1987 High Sierra Hubs

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find replacement sealed cartridge bearings that came on the 1987 Schwinn High Sierra High Flange Hubs? Also, are these cartridges just press fit into the hubs?

Thanks!

Are you sure that they are cartridge bearings? Please share pictures.

If they are cartridge bearings, you should be able to knock them out, and take them to a local industrial supply house for replacements.

I believe they are 6001 type-- 12x28x8mm. Make sure your axle hardware is not rusted permanently together before you order a 10 pack on amazon.

Ps. You should be able to confirm that they're 6001 by checking the designation stamped or printed on the "seal," which is just a ring-shaped plate on the outer lateral face of the cartridge.

Or order a 10 pack on eBay. There are sellers in China where you can get a set of 10 for almost nothing. Number should be on the bearing itself once you get it out.

I think you have the really nice Suntour cartridge bearing hubs.

Number is on the side... you can get 'em anywhere. Have you considered servicing them?

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find any info about those specific hubs but I will look at the bearing cartridges.

So to get the axle assembly part, I would remove the locknuts and then tap out the axle with a mallet or something? The assembly seems to be press fit together.

I managed to remove the cartridges from the hub. I think they just need to be cleaned - one of them feels like it has a little fine grit inside. They have stamped on them, "6000 LB NTN."
