The question is : over the years was this model made only from 531 butted Reynolds?

I wonder if the question was known to be so wide ranging in model years?

There, finally. The other is similar, but with a fixed/free rear and radial-spoked front wheel. I don't have a photo.

My '77 Record Ace is 20-30 High Tensile Steel(gas pipe), if I recall correctly the '76 was also 20-30. That being said it is a nice ride, well behaved, and predictable, not light but I have more pounds to drop than it weighs, soo............

Names can be a bit confusing. Raleigh also made a RRA, (Raleigh Record Ace) in the earlier middle 70's, white with yellow head tube ab seat tube panels, 531 throughout.

In addition to the '73 RRA which is full 531DB, there were also some in the '50s which were also 531 I believe. I have also seen a 1980 Record Ace that was 531 as well, but possibly a European only model. In typical Raleigh fashion, some years the Record Ace was a lower level machine. Others such as the above were high end.

The earlier '70's Record Aces were 531 but for 76 and 77 they were 20-30 HT. This is why they were not considered "desireable."

Be careful with your nomenclature.

Raleigh made a RRA model which could be called Raleigh Raleigh Record Ace or Raleigh RRA. This is a completely different model than the Raleigh Record Ace

Make: Raleigh
Model: Raleigh Record Ace (RRA)

Make: Raleigh
Model: Record Ace

RRA:

Yeah, it is a bizarre phenomenon, but they used what appears to be the same model name for a bike at the top of the line as for the bottom of the line.

The first version is discussed here:

ipernity: Raleigh Record Ace (RRA) 1933-1942 by Peter Kohler

the next version came out in 1946 or so and continued almost to the mid 50's; butted 531 frame, lots of fancy parts made in-house by Raleigh just for this model.

That was followed by a "Record Ace Moderne" in the late 50's.

The real confusion began in the 70's....

Where do you live again? And where is this bike stored? And how much security is there? Just curious...idle chatter.

You realize it's a three speed, right? An English three speed, no less. No Campagnolo parts on it anywhere.

83 pounds at his last weigh-in. His middle name is 'suspicious'.

Heh - we use a similar security system.

Ours is just 75 pounds, but a lot of it seems to be in his voice box.
