'88 Cannondale front derailleur mount question
I just bought an '88(?) 'Dale road frame that I'm going to build up, looks to be in very good condition aside from some paint scratches. There is no front derailleur mount on the frame, but the rivnuts to mount one seem to be fine. Should I seek out a derailleur mount, or just get a band/clamp style front derailleur to put on?

It should be a 31.8 dia. Are you saying it used to be a braze on mount but it's missing? Most 88's should be clamp on, unless maybe it was a Dura Ace equipped bike? A picture would end a lot of confusion.,,,,BD

SR frames are all braze-on, ST frames are all clamp on 31.8.
You COULD use a clamp if you're careful not to crush the rivnut mounts, or you can buy a new FD hanger from Cannondale Experts: Cannondale Older Road Bike Front Derailleur Mount - A451 - CannondaleExperts.com

Rrcardr - the link didn't work.
I haven't verified the '88 bit yet, but it's definitely pre-3.0 with a fixed derailleur hanger. Light blue.
Paint may be involved...
Thanks for reminding me about crush factor on these thin tubes, I will probably go with the braze-on mount just to make me feel better. I will start with a WTB in the classifieds first. :-)
I'm still on the road for work, when I get home I will have more time and resources to mess with the frame.

Did a little quick research. It's an '86 frame, definitely SR, and the catalog scans 85-88 show all the SR models using the "braze-on" front derailleur.
Sure I could spend $18, but don't us vintage guys live for finding the used part deal? :-)
