That's very interesting, Rep. Other than a few cosmetic changes they made through the years, ie; the shape of the back plate, the location of the return spring pivot, etc., I didn't realize they had made changes in dimensions of the basic design. I think the newest example I have here is a Pat. 81, and the oldest a Pat. 72. I'll have to look more closely at them. I seem to be able to use a 14-28 on the Pat. 74 on my Le Champion, with a bit of finessing.
It is one of those subtle changes that just don't show unless you have two in hand and a caliper. What got me thinking of it was the very early units had a more organic flow of surface from the material adjacent to the upper pivot and around to the link pivot pins. "why was that?" The parallelogram links did not change early on, but the distance from the upper pivot to the links did, and I recall the same for the lower, so the jockey cage pivot was moved further away from the rear wheel axle. |

Suntour GT length rear mechs. I just find them to be the pinnacle of utility.
I have a small stash of VGT and Cyclone rears. I can't help myself. |
I seem to be accumulating hubs.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/IMG_3805.JPG I have two virtually identical Eisentraut Limited's. One with Phil hubs and the other with Weyless hubs. The Phil's are on a 57.5 that is very clean. The Weyless on a 59 that is fairly ratty. They are both period correct builds, done before I received the bikes so I have no way of knowing if that was OEM, and I can't bring myself to sell either bike because of the unique hubs or at least the Weyless hubs. Really illogical on some level, but I don't care.... |

I've managed to amass a pile of Zeus cranks:
http://www.os2.dhs.org/~john/zeus-cranks.jpg Plus a box of chainrings and three more cranks installed on bikes. |
Wheels. I don't know why. All clean and built, with proper tires, trued and tensioned, free wheels installed, ready to ride.
|
I collect a lot of odd things, but one thing that always makes me smile that no one else in the world seems to care about are these:

I have a small stash of VGT and Cyclone rears. I can't help myself. I also have trouble passing on a reasonably priced rack. |
Hubs, usually old, with 32/40 drillings. Several fixed or fixed free, 110 width. Then a bunch of EA1/597mm rims and tires. I resolve to built these wheels and ditch the extras, honest.
Oh, also the Suntour long cages, freewheels, triple chainsets. Oh, also too many old frames of a very pedestrian nature. leather saddles etc. |

I have too many other collections to focus on collecting something bike related, too!
You should see my humidor! |
If any of you hoarders have a 1st gen Cyclone triple FD for sale hit me up.
|
I collect dust. Like right now, for instance.

I will still end up with a huge surplus of handlebars, brakes, derailleurs, and hubs. When I get a chance, I'll donate a bunch of stuff to a bike coop or something, because my life is too cluttered, and I'm getting a more realistic view of how many projects and ideas I ought to have going on.

Now that I'm older (and the Raleigh does not even have dropout braze-ons) the temptation is much less. They say that the British left the braze-ons off the USA bound Mk IV Professionals as they thought that Americans were not much interested in a nice rack. More into baseball, they supposed. |

I was going nutso over 10 speed Campy Chorus groupsets for a while.
Had four of them. :) Ended up using two and selling two. Last one went on the Della Santa. I also have an excess of vintage/sort of vintage/modern wheelsets. I'm not sure how that happened, but that's a habit I really need to break pronto. |
You should post a pic of the DS.
That is my Grail bike. |

That is my Grail bike. I'll do a finished shot next weekend, but here's the frameset. My son is riding it on our annual "St. Paul to Ely" ride where our cabin is located on the edge of the BWCA. |
Very Nice! I do want one.

It was a no brainer. Fwiw. His custom prices are a real bargain. |
Add me to the SunTour collectors. V- Luxe and up rear. Some are GT, some are medium cage. I put one of my sets of first gen Cyclone on my '84 Univega. Very lightweight, and very functional.
Also SunTour shifters. I was rummaging around in the garage and came up with five barcons. Two and a half sets. That in addition to the sets already in use on my two primary rides. I must have picked up that single barcon as a source for spares. My Fuji was missing the little screw that holds the black cover on, causing it to rattle or buzz while riding. It still worked fine, but can be annoying if I thought about it. I also have a couple of sets of downtube clamp-on shifters in addition to the Symmetric I took off the '84 Univega... |
I don't, but I'd like to collect Campagnolo Century Gray Centaur

I don't collect, but I do have a stockpile of spares: early high end Suntour, later Suntour Sprint and Superbe Pro, Shimano 6400, 7400, and early Deore XT. All of the Shimanos are groups I tend to use on keepers.
Perhaps if I had grown up 10-20 years earlier, I'd be collecting nice Campy RDs and displaying them in shadowboxes, too. |
I have a weakness for Pelissier 2000 hubs. I definitely have more than I need, so I must be collecting.
